It is a normal part of bonding for any group of people to develop some inside jokes and comments over time. That's especially so when those people are brought together by adversity. Your description of what happens here is sad, bitter, and completely off base.

Let me tell you something about DU that you apparently were too busy licking old wounds to notice. When someone who is new - either to the site or to some aspect of the political process - asks a question, people here are quick to help and genuinely enjoy bringing someone else along. If the OP had said something along the lines of "Hey, I see so many people spelling moron "moran." Am I missing something?" there would have been all the answers and all the jokes, but none of the snarkiness.

However, this OP chose not to ask an honest, civil question. This op chose to insult people. And got the answer that was deserved. You get what you give and the OP actually got better than was given, so has no legitimate complaint.

1. They could think logically: If a very large number of people misspell the same word in the same way on a specific message board, perhaps I should find out if it might have some sort of insider meaning when spelled that way before making a comment about its being incorrect.

If they still decide to comment, they could frame their comment in a way that does not come off as snooty and superior, as though God put them on this earth just to enlighten us poor morans: If I still decide to make a comment about the fact that everyone is misspelling the same word in the same way on said message board, perhaps I should frame my comment as a question, instead of getting all superior and snarky about how dumb everyone else looks for misspelling the word that way.
