Wow! This has been the busiest day our vacation rental business has ever had!
We have several big houses in S Tahoe. Depending on time of year, they rent between $500 and $2,000/night.

Well, it's been a little bleak, of late.

When gasoline went over $4, we had $10,000 bookings cancelled. "It will cost us $500 to drive to Tahoe and back."

Human nature, you know.

But I have been telling the crew that the election will turn everything around.

Sure enough, all the news has turned it around.

Today has been our busiest day (booking-wise) in seven years.

If these people are feeling good, the economy is going to move around.

A Change is Gonna Come.

Tom

1. I hope it's not delusional Republicans.
I visited Tahoe in the 70s and thought it was the most beautiful place I had ever seen. I hope your rentals will soon be full of happy (and well-heeled) Dems.

2. I was having this same discussion (well, okay, not about *Tahoe* specifically ;-)
...with another "freelance" dad at a birthday party with my son, over the weekend...

The question we had was how much of our current Recession was psychological, how much was structural, and how much would change just by virtue of the light breaking through...?

Man, you oughta get a job as a creative writer.

Actually, I would love to have you and your son join us, in the snow, in January.

Maybe we can work it out.

You know how to find me.

7. And how do vacation rentals do that? I would think it's the opposite.
Edited on Mon Nov-03-08 11:26 PM by pnwmom
If city people can just take their vacations in a rural rental, they'll get their rural "fix" and won't need to move out there -- creating sprawl.

9. Oh, come on. We just bought them.
We didn't cut down any trees.

And we do our part for open-space protection.

It's a business.

10. TomIn, please
keep us informed.

Its traditional that a Dem win improves business, and I'd certainly like to know how it works this critical year.

Thanks.

11. This has been a hell of a day.
I cannot help but think this is a wonderful, barometric sample.

Maybe I should re-post this, in the morning.
