1. Oh that's wonderful! My eyes are tearing up
Thank you for posting this!

The Welcome Back America party - to be held in a public square near you - will be a way to spontaneously celebrate the good will and energy of a Democratic Party victory, and at the same time tell our neighbours to the south that we're still friends, Micallef says.

"For eight years, there have been protests at American consulates, protesting the war (in Iraq), protesting America," said Micallef, associate editor of Spacing Magazine.

"It must be tough to be an American and to think the whole world hates you. So this would be a fun message to send back and say: 'Hey, we still like you. It's not personal.' "

The public party is to work like this: When CNN declares victory (CNN was chosen because it's the most internationally available news organization), revellers will head for their town's main square where public celebrations usually take place.

"The idea is to encourage people in their own place to suggest where they meet," Micallef said.

He says he was inspired by vintage photos of people gathering in New York's Times Square to celebrate the end of the Second World War as a news ticker scrolled around, announcing "Victory in Europe."

In Toronto, the obvious choice is Dundas Square, where instead of a news ticker, Micallef hopes at least one of four giant screens will be showing election results and celebrations around the world.

I do feel the whole world is holding their breath for an Obama victory and the return of sanity. That they want to party for and with us makes me giddy. :P

woo hoo! :woohoo:

2. Here in Toronto
(We have about 6 million people) a mass of us, the young and armed with twitter are heading downtown to Nathan Phillips square to party like its 2001 and nothing at all happened.

Good Luck America, we're ALL rooting for change!
