Assuming this election goes as we expect, this is significant for not only our country, but western civilization and pluralistic societies in general. That sounds absolutely crazy...but I feel this is a VERY important event.

I am a European, 33 years old. And the only event in my lifetime that I think compares, would be the Berlin Wall coming down. Where there is distinct difference in the world between before and after. (and perhaps Denmark winning the European football championships ;) )

Black presidents are pretty popular in Haiti after all, same story in Guyana and Suriname.
I guess if you're excluding Caribbean states, sure.

5. I think Aristide' is not chopped liver... |
|
also, on another note, Evo Morales, of indigenous American descent, is at least AS significant an accomplishment for THAT country
but I dunno... obviously, WE are US, and as usual, THEY, are only THEM.

12. Aristide? Uh.....no. I think I knew what they meant by "western" |
|
Edited on Tue Nov-04-08 05:03 AM by PretzelWarrior
and I'm sure they mean a classical western civilization democracy, etc. Not the banana republics down in the Caribbean that are often the fault of our wicked foreign policy.
P.S. I included him in my reply #2 above. So some of us are on the ball and considering the world around us.
