Greetings from Vashon, WA!
Tomorrow - or rather, later today I suppose - we're going to have a hell of a ride. Closing night to what, to many, may feel like the longest of eight long years. We're all drawn tense. We know that we're going to win this thing, but, hey, we're Democrats, we're not used to that feeling, so we're all fucking tense.
That said... Most of us in the Western States - Hawai'i, Alaska, California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Nevada - we'll likely know who the next president is before we get off work. I work nights so it's pretty much guaranteed. Even so, we can't forget - get your asses out there and vote anyway. Take your friends, your family, put the kids on roller skates and drag them behind the car, whatever you've got to do.
We in the west may feel, year after year that our votes "don't count" but that's a bald-faced lie. All of us expect the right to pull dirty tricks, but you know what, they're not bothering out here too much because they think the same things - that it'll be called (and contested) long before the votes in the west are counted in. Well, bullshit to that. Let's get our asses out to the polls, and turn this win into an electoral landslide. Leave no county purple or - heaven forbid - red. We might not often get to see our votes make a dent, but we can still send a hell of a message - that this nation wants Barack Obama, coast to coast. The more of our votes are cast, the harder it will be for the corrupt fucks in Florida, Ohio, and Pennsylvania to contest the election with their own phony shit, and we can pick up the lines left slack by the many thousands who have been cut from voter rolls in those states.
Again. Just because we're going to win doesn't mean we progressives in the "left coast" can afford to sit on our asses eating nachos and watching the numbers roll in. Go out! Vote! Carry around those who can't get to the polls on their own - even if they're voting for the other guy and do it with a damn smile. Maybe the yeldarb will kick in from that, who knows? We've got to pitch in this time.
At any rate, to the rest on the west, and everyone else, have a good night and let's hope for the best tomorrow evening - coast to coast blue!
