Every poll of the 18-24 crowd shows they SELF-IDENTIFY themselves as Democrats by at least a 2 to 1 margin. When I was in college in the late 1990s I remember being surprised that polls showed splits of about 60-40 in favor of Democrats, I was surprised because I thought it would be even higher. It definitely was in my school which like most in the Ivy League was a predominantly liberal student body.

The kids behind us are way more liberal then we were as we only had Poppy Bush to look at with disgust...they had his even worse son! We had the Repub Revolution and the Contract with America and Newt. That was bad but they have had Shrub. I think 8 years of Bush has turned them all into Dems, or most of them.

12. Facing reality

Joe and the rest of the Republicans need to face reality not only are the college students not moving left neither is the rest of the country. It is well known that the politics in this country work like a pendulum and swing right and then when people get tired of that or the extremists on that side get too reactionary it swings back to the left. Right now I would like to think we are on a swing to the left thanks to Bush and his minions. The Republicans of the last 30 or 40 years have had a dream of locking the pendulum on the right hand swing and never having it move back to the left again and they are going to have a hard time giving up that dream if the leftward swing lasts for awhile.
