1. What does turmeric taste like? I have never had it
I know it's hard to explain a taste, but what is it similiar to? I'm guessing it is strong, using only a quarter teaspoon.

5. I don't think it has much of a flavor
It's mostly for a yellow color, and as a cheap sub for saffron. I don't believe chili should be yellow, therefore I'm voting for McCain.

Just kidding.

2. turmeric in chili? I don't think so.
And that's not enough cumin. And "red wine vinegar?"

This is the most important issue I disagree with him on.

And I hate tomatoes in chili.

3. Kidney beans in chili? Don't think so.
Chili beans or pinto beans belong in chili. Never kidney beans.

17. Yeah, they're too big and bean-ie.
I like half small red, half black bean, but TMMV.

11. If you haven't tried kidney beans in chili, you should
Everyone here in Tenn eats them like that. I have never heard of putting any other kind of bean in them before.

Edited on Tue Nov-04-08 07:25 AM by scard
You need lots of chilies, paprika,...I would put in twice as much cumin and chili and omit the basil and turmeric. oregano maybe if it's mexican oregano. where's the cayenne?

18. AWESOME!!!!!
I just made a large pot of chili late last night.... all I need to do is add the cumin and some oregano and I'll pretty much have the same recipe. I'm going to leave out the vinegar and turmeric.

I figured chili would taste extra delicious on election night.

19. It's not MY recipe
Edited on Tue Nov-04-08 07:53 AM by Danmel
Although I do use beans

I saute the onions and peppers in bacon fat- gives it a little smokiness and I mince up the bacon and add it to the chili,. I do not use turmeric, I do use paprika nd cumin and I use tomato sauce, not whole tomatoes- Id ont like the skins in my chili.

I don't use rice either.

But for Barack, I'll make some chili tonight
