NBC morning show... anti-Obama by intent or out of fear?
Ann Curry: Live update from Obama's old school in Jakarta, Indonesia?

Matt L: Some black professor going on and on about the significance of this as a black historical moment?

Matt L: Brings on a pollster expert, then freaks out as he tells us that Obama is basically going to win. Matt tries to correct his tone, obviously scared that they will look pro-Obama.

Jamie Gangel: "Road to November," a review that highlights all the "questions" about Obama's associations? They even showed all the Wright clips. What the hell. They covered most of the major candidates briefly but the Obama part was entirely negative. It gave an "angry clinton supporter" vibe and emphasized race.

Mika & Joe: "Black America" this and that. Mika ended with a long monologue about how this is about black america.

What the hell? No wonder i try not to watch TV... :(

1. With a few exceptions, both forms of GE-TV pretty much suck.
I'm watching WGN as I do every morning.

5. If you're a racially-motivated voter,

all you have to do is LOOK at Obama to know that he's not your average white politician. You don't need morning news to tell you that much.

10. true, but the focus on race can sway someone who may be a bit racist,
but is thinking about voting dem for their own good.

bringing up race over and over puts that forefront in their reptilian brain-

12. Like I said,
his race hasn't exactly been ignored up to this point, and it hasn't done him any visible harm. People aren't going to wake up today, switch on NBC, and say, "Wait...he's BLACK!? Fuck that." If you're an Obama-voting racist, your economic straits have caused you to pretty much come to grudgingly accept his skin color.

6. Do you think that was their intent, though--to seem positive?

Really, though, if they were hanging out at Sarah Palin's school, DU would be all up in arms about how nasty and biased the MSM is.

7. i personally resent and reject the emphasis on the "black" aspect of this election
Edited on Tue Nov-04-08 08:36 AM by Essene
it's entirely the point of the mccain campaign to make this about race along with the fear and division that causes.

once obama has WON, ill be fine with folks talking about the historical implications but even then... i'll be happy to point out this is good for all marginalized people... black, latino, asian, gay, women, etc.

9. Networks want ratings.

This is an election that features an African-American and a woman competing for the two highest offices in the land. Like it or not, they're going to talk about it.

Bottom line, if there are any on the fence voters out there that are just being informed this morning that Obama isn't (entirely) white, their numbers are negligible.

11. this seems like more than that tho...
matt lauer is constantly pushing the mccain story.

they were all just gushing over this live feed of the obama's voting, and he kept interjecting about how it would also be historic of Palin became VP as a woman, etc.

they were talking about the economy, and he interjected that mccain was right about "the surge" in iraq... and how that basically made iraq not an issue.

is he a die-hard republican or just a misguided journalist trying to be "objective?"

13. So he's one guy on a panel of...how many?
Edited on Tue Nov-04-08 08:52 AM by deadparrot
Let's go with the "die-hard Republican" scenario. He's still sharing the stage with other (presumably more liberal) commentators, if the gushing over the Obamas' voting is any indication.
