I JUST VOTED FOR BARACK OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!!!!
HERE IN ITHACA, NY!!!

I took my three children -- ages 6, 7, and 10 -- into the voting booth with me. We all pushed the Barack Obama tab, and then the kids took turns pushing the tabs for Maurice Hinchey and the rest of the Democratic ticket. We all put our hands on the lever and pulled together. (It is the last time lever machines will be used in New York.)

When we left, I began to cry -- my children knew something big had just happened because they don't see their mother cry very often. I hugged and kissed each of them and told them what a great and historic day this is. I hope they will remember this day for the rest of their lives, and maybe be able to tell their own children about the day they helped their mother vote for PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA.

PLEASE CHECK IN AND TELL ME YOUR LOCATION (AND SHARE YOUR STORY IF YOU LIKE.)

4. woot!
I just voted in Cincinnati, and a LOT of the line seemed pro-Obama, although not all. One lady in front of me was with her kids, and her youngest daughter looked at her cheat sheet and said "why aren't you voting for Babak Obama, mommy?" lol. Her older daughter was also obviously a red voter as she made a couple of snarky and ignorant comments about homeless people voting and Democrats in general. I almost told her that everyone has the right to vote, homeless or not, but decided to wait - she'll have a hard enough time dealing with it tonight.

Oh well, we can't win them all over yet, but we CAN win!

5. Lines have never been longer in my little precinct, and I got my LUCKY NUMBER!
I was voter #12 this morning, Hubby and I got to our polling place spot on at 7:00 am, and were stunned by the number of cars in the parking lot. And more and more people started arriving almost immediately. We live in a tiny unincorporated village, and I have NEVER seen more than 2-3 people at a time; the election officials normally outnumber the voters at any one time, pretty handily. Not today! It's beautiful weather for November in Minnesota (gonna hit 70 today, we hear!) and there must have been 30 voters in line by 7:15 am...I am so excited!
And 12 is my lucky number, so I'm happy happy happy!
Heading off soon to the Obama field office in Mankato to spend the day on GOTV efforts there...

7. I'm voting this afternoon here on the West Coast
and my children will go too. They've always gone into the booth with me but this year I go with my 18 year old son as he votes for his first time so he's on his own. He's read about the issues and asked a lot of questions - he's an enthusiastic Obama supporter. He and I both already know I'm going to cry. I've got three more children that are also being raised to know the significance of voting and I'll definitely be there for each of them the first time the walk into that booth. I'll be the one with the Kleenex and the big grin.

It is well passed the days when my sons joined me. They are both of voting age themselves now. My youngest sent in his absentee ballot for Obama. My older son is cynical and will not vote. It hurts me, but that is his choice.

When I left my car to go into the school gym, I just started to smile! There was one person in front of me in my Assembly district and I still couldn't stop smiling. I was #74 for my district in the A-L book. I waited for the woman before me to vote. When she left the booth I gave her a big smile and she smiled shyly back at me. I entered the booth. It was so great to see the Democratic ticket on the top line of the candidates section. I pulled down the tabs for Obama, Rep. John Hall(D), Assemblywoman Sandy Galef(D) and the Democratic candidate for State Senator. I then saw the proposition all the way at the top (but not obvious) and voted Yes to help out Vets on disability.

When I pulled the lever I was still smiling and felt an incredible sense of power. It was a beautiful experience!!!

When I left the booth, I smiled broadly at the person who was waiting next, to exercise his own share of the Democratic process.

Everyone has to go out and vote!!!

YES WE CAN!!!!

:hi:

11. I started a thread about my experience too.... cut and paste here

6:55 am - 9:05 am.... my voting experience

Holy Crap

I voted in the primaries this year, at the same location. I got there just after 7:00 and was the third one to vote in my precinct. I can only assume that the two who voted ahead of me were working the polls since nobody else was there.

Today I showed up before the polls opened and had At least 1500 and possibly 2000 people ahead of me.

I have been voting in the same location for the last 12 years, and had voted there back in the 80s also. Never saw anything that even slightly resembled this turnout.

The two things worth noting other than the turnout were:

1) One woman's water broke while in line, so she was escorted to the front of the line to polite applause and quiet cheers from the rest of us in line.

2) Many people did not know what precinct they were in, so when the line marshals tried to move people from the main line forward to a short precinct line it was a cluster fuck. No maps to help. Even the people working there were not certain where the boundaries were (and one guy was listed as a different precinct than his voter registration card listed).

Other than that it was pretty straight forward. Some people impatient but nothing out of hand. Just some mild rudeness.

FYI I am on Detroit's east side. We are all (or almost all) Democrats.

Edit to add... when I left the line was just as long if not longer, still a couple thousand people there waiting to vote
