I'm on my way to a Republican meeting.
We call ourselves Ancient Aviators of South Alabama.
It's a bunch of old fart, retired pilots.
Mostly former military and most of those Navy.
We never discuss politics at meetings, just talk about flying. Usually have a speaker on some aviation related topic.
But I can tell from conversations before and after meetings that I'm pretty much surrounded by uber patriotic, 'My country, right or wrong', 'I support our president, no matter what (as longs as he's a republican)', right wingers.

I guess it's to be expected in this demographic.
:-(
But today I'm wearing my BLUE shirt, and my BLUE baseball cap.
I bet it'll be a sad looking group.

1. My dad is one of those of whom you speak. Navy man, uber-patriot...not a
pilot though. I fully expect him to blow his top this evening after he has a few beers.

I will be smiling on the inside. }(

2. Haha. I like the thought.
Maybe you'll feel more like going from now on out.

There was a ww2 tricycle gear shiny steel radial that would fly over my place every Saturday morning. One time I ran down to the airport and found him getting out. He was 89. He wore a damned parachute. I couldn't believe it. It was 2003, and when he got down on the tarmac he began to lecture me. "Don't let those damned liberals get in the white House!".

3. My husband was a Navy fighter pilot who won medals
in the Korean War.

I am so proud that he voted for Obama.

And he also listened to me and voted not to take away the right of gay couples to get married. (We live in California.)

I grew up in Alabama and most of my family is still there. I have a gay second cousin on my mother's side and a gay second cousin on my father's side. It has taken me years to understand that gays have rights too.
