Question: Should I take my (cherished) lawn sign, plant it at the polling site and hope it
doesn't get stolen? And - is anyone allowed to put signs there, or do you have to be an official
voter something-or-other?

It really pisses me off!

1. No, keep it....don't let it get to you
People probably put those signs there because they are desperate and know their candidate isn't looking good.

2. In GA there are rules keeping signs & campaigning 150 feet away from polling sites
Edited on Tue Nov-04-08 11:24 AM by CottonBear
There are also signs posted at every polling place that say "No campaigning within 150 feet of this polling location."

As per GA law: No person may campaign; distribute literature of written or printed matter of any kind; wear campaign buttons, signs, pins, stickers, T-shirts, etc.; circulate petitions; or perform similar activities within 150 feet of the building in which a polling place is located.

Do you have a law there where you live?

3. Yes. All the signs are at the opening of the driveway to the polling place, about 150'
away. My car is covered with every imaginable kind of bumper sticker imaginable for Obama/Biden.
So maybe I'll just park it at the polling place and leave it there.
I can walk home, then go back later and get it.

Yeah, that's the ticket!!

4. Keep in mind that your car may be a form of illegal campaigning too.
You don't want to have your car towed.

5. In NJ there are no signs allowed within 100 feet of a polling place. You can't even wear a campaign
button or shirt within 100 feet of the polling place when you go to vote. No one can campaign for a candidate withing 100 feet of a polling place either.

Maybe you should ask the poll workers if there are any laws in your state governing placement of campaign material near a polling place.
