Longest line I've EVER seen at my precinct -- Oklahoma City suburb
Edited on Tue Nov-04-08 11:58 AM by Wednesdays
We went to vote at about 8:00 AM, and our polling place was packed (2 precincts), about 120 people standing in line. About a 35 minute wait before reaching the table.

Other than the sheer volume of people, nothing unusual to report. Things went smoothly.

Location: "The Village" (a suburb of Oklahoma City, about 10 miles north of downtown OKC).

On edit: I haven't missed a general election since I started voting in 1978. So, this is the biggest turnout I've seen in 8 presidential elections.

1. Driving to my office in NW OKC I saw long lines everywhere.
Glad I vote absentee.

I'm too lazy to stand in those lines!

2. same here in Tulsa
My mom and I wonder if they were pissed off Republicans who know they will lose, or a bunch of motivated Obama folks. I'm pretty sure the handsome black guy in a dress Army uniform standing behind me was an Obama voter..LOL

5. My office manager just got here after 2 hours in line
She reports the mood was amiable.

"People were talking up a storm.

Nearly giddy with excitement."

9. Hard to tell at my precinct
Not many younger people--I'd say the median age was late 30s, early 40s. Evenly male/female, and all but one was white. No one seemed particularly jovial, but at the same time I didn't see any sour faces. "Business as usual" seemed to be the atmosphere.

Judging by the yard signs in the neighborhood, we have a pretty even mix of Democrats and Republicans. Which is good news, actually, 'cause in the past this area has definitely been leaning GOP.

4. I went to Northwest Classen HS and had friends who lived in The Village
Most of them went to Heritage Hall or Cassoday.

The majority of my nine siblings still live in the NW OKC area. Glad to hear things are going smoothly in your area.

14. And Sonic, of course.
;)

And three weeks from Friday, we'll be treated to that annual jingle:
Jewelry is the gift to give, 'cause it's the gift that'll live and live..."

7. Someday we will turn this state blue.
I hope Obama gets more than 35%. I hate being compared to Utah.

11. As a colleague once said, "Thank God for Mississippi"
'Cause Oklahoma was at the bottom in several categories, such as health care, infant mortality, etc., 2nd only to Mississippi. At least it was a few years ago...I think things have gotten much better with Brad Henry as guv.

(Sorry, I don't mean to slam Mississippi. Here's hoping that state elects a Dem governor and Dem legislature, and starts turning things around, too.) :)

12. I grew up in B.A., and...
... the typical rightwing, mouth-breathing idiot who lives there is a never-ending source of embarrassment. Not to mention Mountain Man Inhofe. Left when I graduated H.S., live in NYC now - very Blue, often atheist, like living in another country! I don't think Okies will ever evolve, I gave up a long time ago (like, in 4th grade), it's really sad.

13. Things are noticably better with Henry as governor
Yeah, we've got a long way to go, but things aren't nearly as "uptight" as they were just 5 years ago. For one, Oklahoma City places greater emphasis on arts and culture now.

15. I grew up in Broken Arrow, too
Before the Rhema crowd took it over. I'm in NW OKC now.

Only waited five minutes to sign in, and another minute for an empty booth.

Mostly older crowd, lily white except for one black lady out of maybe forty people. Disappointing, because there are a number of black, Latino and Asian families in my neighborhood.

8. Same thing in SE Edmond
FBC Edmond...very little organization. Two precincts and no way to tell if you were in the right line until you get in the building.

I'm going in about 30 minutes with my daughter, I live in NW Edmond. I've waited 5 minutes once. This should be interesting.
