**** Official "I brought my kids to the voting booth" thread ****
Edited on Tue Nov-04-08 11:43 AM by berni_mccoy
I brought both my sons to the voting booth to witness my civic duty (I always bring them). They both watched me cast my vote. Both reminded me to be careful and make sure I marked Barack Obama. We have the fill-in-the-circle type ballot. My youngest reminded me to stay inside the lines of the bubble. :-) They make me proud.

Check in here if you brought your kids to vote.

39. My school is a polling place but they keep the school open
We have to work around crowds and move the gym teacher out. Kids don't get outdoor recess either - and it's almost 80 degrees here! I wish they closed for us, too.

3. I brought my 17 1/2 year old daughter. We use the old style mechanical machines
here in New York. (Not only have no electronic machines passed New York State's testing, but New York State officials haven't even approved a test! It seems all the tests proposed by the voting machine companies can be gamed!)

She pulled the lever for Obama, I checked all the other positions, then we both put our hands on the curtain lever to register my vote!

5. My 7 yr old and I voted on Saturday (25 min)
He kept saying LOUDLY "When do we vote for Barack Obama?" Everyone was smiling at him, and many asked about whether he received a lot of Halloween loot. The atmosphere was very pleasant here in North FL

7. My wife and I brought our 8-month-old and our 5-year-old
The 5-year-old, stayed with me as I marked my ballot. He kept telling me to vote for Obama and make sure that I was not voting for McCain. After I marked the ballot, he fed it into the scanner.

Now he'll always be able to say that he cast a vote for Obama in '08. I am very, very proud.

17. Definitely.
My wife and I always vote at the same time, and we always take the kids with us (ages 5 and 8 now). They need to see that voting regularly is what American citizens are supposed to do. I want them to take their duty to vote seriously, and I believe in teaching by example.

18. My 10 y.o. son watched me fill out my mail-in ballot
He double-checked for me that I filled in the right spots for Obama and Biden, as well as our important local races and props. (He 'Boos' every time he sees a Yes on 8 sign. )

And man was he surprised that there were other names on the ballot in addition to the D's and R's.

But it was my Dad and my Mom taking me into the voting booth from the first that has made me a voter and active Democrat for life. So good going, I'm so glad you took the kids, they will never, ever forget it.

23. I brought my 13-year-old son
He is very interested in the political process and knew more about Obama than I did originally. We stood in line together for 3 hours on Saturday to vote early. Seeing the hope and enthusiasm for his future on his face makes me tear up, even now.

28. I took my 5 YO
I've always taken him to vote, since he was an infant. Stopped in to the district office before dropping him off at school. We have the old lever machines, so he went in behind the curtain with me and watched me pull the levers. He got an "I voted" sticker.

taken a pic of it.

She was born right after 9/11, so I feel like Obama winning will mark a significant departure for the only world she has ever known.

32. Had to drive two hours to get her
from her college dorm. Two hours back to home, 25 minutes to vote, 45 minutes for lunch, two hours back to school, hour and a half to visit there including time with my sister and her husband while they voted, two hours to home again. All worth the trouble since it the first time she voted for a president, and the first time I have ever been certain that all five of my family that live in the same state voted for the same people. This was last week, we have early voting in Tennessee. Today my daughter and I will spend at least two hours together on the phone laughing and talking while the returns come in. Voting together was a Blast!

33. Absofreakinlutely
I was excited as we waited. Calm as we entered the building. Quick and efficient as I showed them how to mark a ballot. And when I removed it and handed it to them to put it in the box, I started those tears of joy.

Seriously--is there any cooler picture than your kids submitting your hope for the future?

35. Bought our 2 year old
How could she not be part of the change? :) :) :)

She was bored while we were voting for the dozens of judges. The awesome Republican election judge gave her a string of "I Voted" stickers to play with, so we left with her wearing a bunch stickers on her shirt.

He must have been a granddad. Cheers to him!

nothing like trying to hold a squirming 2 y.o. while trying to check off boxes. I couldn't even bother to read it. I found Obama, checked it off, and then just looked for D's and voted.

Not much of a line at all but this is CT and we are gonna go blue no matter what. My daughters can't read yet obviously but they wanted to know where Barack's and Joe's name were on the ballot. It was a good time and they got "I voted" stickers.

I live in a relatively red precinct - it was practically deserted and it only took me about ten minutes to vote. Sorry guys, gonna go hide now! :hide:

And WMUette kept saying out loud, "We're voting for Obama!"

Lots of grumpy looks our way, LOL!
