Poll question: Paper or E-Vote?
At my Northside Chicago polling place, my precinct had 8 paper ballot booths, and one Sequoia machine. People were lined up like crazy to use the paper ballots. The poll worker kept telling everybody "there's no line at that machine" and nobody would touch it.

So what medium did you vote on, paper or electronic?

3. Same here. Trusty old lever.
Now, whether I know who is counting the votes is another story altogether.

5. yeah, there's a level of trust in every system. I liked the bubble sheet optical scan
when I lived in MN too - paper trail at least. Just no computer voting, please.

8. I lived in Albany NY for a while. I miss those old machines.
Really, that was fun. Flipping all those switches and pulling that big lever. Awesome. Here in my neighborhood of the Northside in Chicago, we use the optical scan ballots with the sharpie marker.

10. A very petite young woman was in front of me this morning

I think it was her first time voting (likely a college student) and she was a little intimidated about heaving the curtain lever back open, but the poll worker talked her through it. The poll worker was very pregnant and had been there since 5:45am (already a line then). Bless her!

4. Somewhere in between here (Optical scan)
So there is a paper ballot, but it's counted by a machine. Unfortunately the machine was made by Chuck Hagel's ES&S :scared:

Not much chance of Obama losing this state, but Rossi stealing it again remains possible :(

9. I believe so. The machine "eats" the ballot. So its locked inside.
No different than the old fashioned lock boxes.

12. Same here...
It is, though, a paper ballot, and can be hand counted if necessary. I AM wondering how accurate the machine will be with a two sided ballot to read. We have 3 questions here, and numbers 2&3 were on the back side. I don't remember ever having that situation before.

6. Paper in DuPage County, IL. They gave me a choice too.
Do all Cook polling places have paper *and* machines? I saw the footage of Barack voting today and he had a paper ballot - it would be great if he had the choice of electronic but turned it down!

14. I'm in Elk Grove and our precinct had about 8 paper ballot booths to 2 Sequoias.
Most people were going with paper.

Note to those outside Illinois: Our Sequoia voting machines do have a paper trail (and you can read the ballot before it scrolls past). Since the paper ballots are scanned, I figure it's all pretty much a wash as to what's the least likely method to be corrupted.

11. paper
and just to let you all know-

at my polling place there were 2 touch-pad machines in the corner set-up but un-used.

They just kept handing out paper w/o asking a preference!

it was AWESMOE!

17. I chose paper. I couldn't tell how many people chose to use the machines because
they were on the other side of the room behind a screen, but there were several other people who voted on paper ballots while I was there. I took advantage of the early voting and waited about 20-25 minutes.
