Connecticut Reporting: Heavy Voting in the State; Shays going Down |
|
Here in Waterbury went to seven voting precincts (I voted in Bunker Hill area) and at 6 AM there were long lines when the precincts opened. Went to Danbury, Stamford, Norwalk, and Bridgeport this morning and so far heavy voting. There will be a huge Democratic victory for Obama in CT. Also Representative Chris Shays is heading for defeat according to the latest polls.
With respect to Reverend Wright commercial, in my precinct it has backfired on the Republicans. None of the people that I talked said that it turn them away from Obama, as a matter of fact they said that it reflected poorly on McCain and his lack of control that he exerted on his campaign. COnnecticut: Deeply BLUE.

2. Shays has richly earned a defeat. |
|
I'm quite a distance from Connecticut, but I'm rooting for the bluest turnout in ages there.

8. Do they have provisions for recalling Senators in CT? |
|
If so, what are they waiting for?
Sounds like the voters are pissed off enough to get rid of that fucking wart.

19. No - no recall provisions here. |
|
But I think the Democratic Party leadership here in CT learned a lesson and will not again back someone who loses the primary. I know of one delegate who regrets his actions.

a moderate, who was on the good side of many issues
environment, etc..... was it shay?
point was: it's the moderate rethugs who are being ousted in some cases, not the hard core whacko fundies
but, bottom line: great to get rid of rethugs......keep them a tiny opposition party at best

12. Shays campaigned 2 years ago on the right side of issues |
|
and he barely won, then once re-elected became a rubber-stamp for George Bush. So now the chickens are coming home to roost for Shays and come tomorrow he'll be out of a job.

38. It's probably Shays, but |
|
he has this mental problem where his moderation seems to appear every other year, while he becomes more conservative in odd numbered years.

14. Hey Roberto - I've been looking for polling |
|
data on the Shays/Himes race, and could only find stuff that was about 5 weeks old. Can you point me to a resource for that?
Also - my precinct in Danbury (CT138th) was not ridiculously busy (I had no line/no wait), but saw online reports from the News-Times that reported heavy turnout, especially early this morning, at other precincts.

16. It is a little on the red side in my neighborhood - lots of |

senior citizens and a more affluent neighborhood than many in Danbury. IIRC, in 2006 I went late - after work - and it was busier.

this was in 1992. As soon as I saw the line snaking out the door (in that overwhelmingly Dem city), I just knew.

34. I moved to New Haven in 1985! You must have been in Jodie Foster's class, if I recall |
|
it correctly.
I guess you know that the Yale Co-op, the York Square Cinema and the Yankee Doodle coffee shop are all gone. The Yale Bowl has at long last been refurbished after looking much like the Roman Colliseum for years. I live in Westville not too far from the Bowl. I love it here. Great place for a liberal to be. Spouse works for the city (coordinating programs for the homeless). I am retired from Planned Parenthood of CT -- I like to show visitors the old PPC headquarters where Estelle Griswold was arrested for providing birth control to women, resulting in you know what.

37. Well, it's looking a lot better than it did in 85 when I got here. |
|
Things got a lot better during the Clinton years. Clinton loves to come back here and was here just a few weeks ago for his Law School class reunion.
Steven Spielberg shot his latest Indiana Jones movie here summer 07, effing up traffic big time. He seems to think NH is an ideal Ivy League town (he should go shoot movies in Princeton, IMHO).

30. Well it is, but actually Shays wasn't a real bad guy. He's prochoice for one thing. |
|
When I worked for Planned Parenthood of CT he was a pretty good guy for us. I am also concerned about losing any semblance of what used to be called a "liberal REpublican." But perhaps this had to happen to knock some sense into the Republicans who've held out for so long in the party, way after the takeover by the fascists.
Now we've gotta get rid of our governor, "mother" Rell.

32. Also a Waterbury voter... |
|
I'm planning on voting after work this afternoon. I wanted to vote this morning, but I had to drop off my son and niece at daycare and couldn't just leave them in the car, and they are 2 years old and 6 months old - kind of tricky to manage them both at once.
My polling place is Blessed Sacrament - any word on voter turnout there?

maybe 9-10 people in line at that time - all seemed to be in the same line as me (streets starting with A-F)
I'm in one of the redder towns in the Hartford area.
