How is this for a poll tax?
I'm chatting with a friend over Y! and he tells me that he's home for the day. Why? I ask. Because the elementary school where 3 of his kids go, is closed for the day because its a polling place!!!!

So he's had to take his last paid time off day, from work, to sit his kids (his wife is a teacher, and that school is in session today).

:wtf:

As a kid, growing up, many of my schools were polling places for elections. And not once did I get the day off because of an election. I agree that election day should be a national holiday so folks can vote, but making my friend waste a paid day off is over the top!

1. Are the teachers and staff at that school off - giving them the ease to vote?

3. Here in Illinois we have early voting. Went on for two weeks. Its not necessary.
We had no lines or problems with early voting and nothing funny. Odd for a state know for its election games, I know.

Still, he had to take a day off for this. Totally uncool of the school to do that.

2. When I was a kid, our school was also a polling place, and we
always got the day off! If the kids were there, they wouldn't be paying any attention anyway! I think the diff. is that WAY BACK when I was a kid, I don't remember anyone's mother working outside the home.
