Upsetting: Noblesville, Indiana Voting Update - Suburb of Indianapolis
Edited on Tue Nov-04-08 01:35 PM by Stryguy
Just got back from voting and my wife voted 3 hours earlier. Alarming trend here.

Noblesville is broken up into 2 sections, old Noblesville which is very Democrat and lower middle class to mid-middle class and the annexed areas of Noblesville with it's average 4,000 sqft homes costing 300K plus and yard sign after yard sign pushing McCain

I was lucky enough to be dealt a "hand full of cards" in life that land me in the latter.

Now for what I find terribly alarming.

I go to my precinct voting location which is shared with a few other precincts. Of these precincts only mine would I consider a upper class area. I walk up and get in a line that is definately 3 to 4 hours long. It's out the door and winds around the building. A polling official is walking the line asking people what precinct they are in. I report my precinct and I'm told there IS NO LINE for me. I should bypass EVERYONE and enter the building and turn right. I go in and sure enough there are 4 machines (We are using electronic voting machines) sitting completely empty. I get processed and vote in a total of 5 mins, during which only 1 other person shows up to vote for my precinct.

I talk to the poll booth workers and they tell me there's only 2 machines for the other 3 precincts that the other side of the gymnasium is serving. 2 MACHINES?? For 3 precincts when my precinct had 4.. 4 that were completely empty.

I have no idea who to contact or make a stink about this... Any ideas? I took some pictures with my Iphone but then a police officer took interest in me and asked me if I voted, I said yes and he asked if I would move along (nicely) so as to not make the line look even longer. "We don't want people turned off by the long line do we?" He asked. I didn't feel like fighting so I got in my car and drove away. While getting in my car, however, I did see one young couple pull up, get out of their car and then get back in and drive away. It was obvious that the young lady was pointing to the line and talking to her boyfriend/husband.

Very upsetting. Watching these people in line with crying kids, bored children, etc.

**************UPDATE***************

I called the Obama camp and they seemed mostly interested in if people were able to vote, even if it took a long time. They noted it and gave me my precinct councilman's telephone number.

I called my precinct councilman we've agreed to meet back at the polling location so he can see first hand what I was talking about.

I'm also going to take the one guys advice about buying some cheap toys and handing them out.

It's an amazing 75 degrees here in central Indiana today. One week ago it was 40 degrees. How many of these people would not be standing in line with their children outside in 40 degree weather?

5. Two pieces of advice
First call the Obama office. They have teams of lawyers in play today.

Second, if you have a few bucks, go buy some water, snacks or little toys for the kids at some discount outlet and pass them out to the people in line and thank them for their commitment.
