Help Document the Trainwreck-Post your McCain Campaign WTF Moment Here
While the day is still young and all the voted have yet to be counted, I think we can all safely say that the McCain-Palin campaign has probably been one of the most bizarre political exercises in modern history. I thought it might be fun to compile a list of all of the things that have transpired and had us scratch our heads and say :wtf:

Mine:

John McCain standing in front of a building at the RNC while giving his speech. The next day everyone was like "What the hell was that?" Turned out to be a picture of Walter Reade Middle School. It was probably meant to be Walter Reed Hospital but some moran googled the wrong image.

"Dear God" I thought to myself, "They can't even get the Powerpoint right"

Join in Let's document this for posterity

It set the tone for his lackluster attempt.

3. Picking Palin and then continuing
to insist that she was fully vetted, was not a last-minute rush pick, was not hurting the ticket, was more than qualified to be president, had more experience than Obama and Biden put together and, my favorite, had foreign policy experience due to Alaska's proximity to Russia, are my favorite moments. Also, his insistence that she was not a gimmick to get Hillary supporters and that she was picked because she was "the most popular governor in the country" (maybe to three people in AK who'd actually heard of her!) were also good ones.

4. Palin.
The one legitimate argument his campaign had going for it was McCain's significant advantage in experience. I think they looked at Obama's convention bounce and panicked. There was also the "suspension" of the campaign to "fix" the economic crisis; in any other country that humiliating fiasco would have been functionally the end of the campaign for McCain.

5. green speech from hell
The "That's n-n-not cchange we can believe in!" green background speech...that was intercepted to announce that Obama had enough delegates to be the democratic nominee. The speech was awful and the color green made McCain look sickly. Also, visiting the german restaurant and Fudge Hause while Obama was in Berlin. The McCain camp memo about how Obama likes nutrition bars and tea, or something.

17. Definitely my favorite pre-Palin moment and the time I realized he was running this campaign just
like he did his senate campaigns; which I've observed as an active opposition volunteer for twnty-five years.

that was bloody wretched and painful to watch.

7. the "maverick" thing
a lone dissenter, as an intellectual, an artist, or a politician, who takes an independent stand apart from his or her associates.

John McCain runs for George Bush's third term
Based on his policies and the company he keeps, this year's Republican presidential candidate sounds a lot like the guy who ran in 2000 and 2004.

15. The 'suspension' of the campaign and the mortgage buy-back gimmick
Wanted to spend $300 billion to buy up bad loans. It seemed like he was just impulsively pulling ideas out of his ass. I knew then that was the beginning of the end for his campaign.

A week later, he started to call Obama a 'socialist.'

16. Palin, behavior during financial crisis, debates
Edited on Tue Nov-04-08 01:45 PM by tpi10d
Palin-self explanatory

Financial crisis- "fundamentals of the economy are strong," suspension of campaign, erratic behavior.

Debates- Debate two was the worst for him (wandering, irritable), but they all had the same effect. McCain and Obama were on the same stage and Obama appeared more presidential.
