URGENT EMAIL FROM OBAMA - Need Help in Rainy Virginia

URGENT EMAIL FROM OBAMA
by: Rob
Tue Nov 04, 2008 at 1:11:37 PM EST

We need your help right now.

Thousands of Virginia voters are standing in the rain waiting to get into their polling places. We have to make sure they stay in line and cast their ballots.

The outcome in Virginia is going to be incredibly close, and could decide the entire election. We're asking you to bring umbrellas, tarps, raincoats, ponchos -- and all the warm beverages you can carry -- to local volunteers that are helping voters standing in the rain.

Find your nearest volunteer hub:

http://my.barackobama.com/vanovgotv

We can't afford to wake up tomorrow wishing we had done just a little bit more to win this election. Don't let rain keep us from victory when so much is at stake -- especially in Virginia.

Please forward this email to your friends and family, and make sure they get out to vote tonight.

Thank you,

Obama for America

P.S. -- Polls close in Virginia at 7:00 p.m. Make sure everyone knows that as long as you are in line by 7:00 p.m., you can vote. Find or confirm your polling location at www.VoteForChange.com.

5. I passed out gloves to signwavers in Wash. State this morning... Wish I was in Virginia!
If you know of anyone there.. are are there.. can you get out there and keep those folks dry while they wait?

I was sign waving for Obama and Gregoire and others today in Washington State this morning, and it was mid-40s. I had gloves, but the other sign wavers didn't.. and they were freezing. I ran to the store and bough several pairs of gloves and gave them out.. with the instructions to pay them forward. Even offered them to the repubs on the opposing corner. unity.. and all that.

6. One good way to look at this rain is that Obama supporters want to win more...
...so they'll stand in the rain in order to vote.

10. I was afraid this would happen
I think it's the McCain people that won't be able to hack the weather.

If I was a Black person in VA, I would risk getting very ill from hypothermia rather than lose my place in line on this momentous day. I would want to be able to say to my grandchildren that I was there despite the rain and voted for Obama.

25. K&R but rain is the least of our problems, IMO.
Edited on Tue Nov-04-08 01:38 PM by Captiosus
We have polling places in Virginia Beach that are completely shut down, a polling place in Chesapeake that opened 2 hours late, and one in Newport News that keeps going offline for brief periods shutting down the line. We have incompetent people running precincts in Richmond handing out ballots in the rain so the ballots are getting soaked and unreadable by the optical scanners and incompetent people in Newport News who underestimated turnout and only provided a handful of voting booths leading to 2-4 hour waits, especially in minority sections of the town.

I didn't see anyone leave because of the rain, I haven't heard from any of my friends up in the Northern Neck and Richmond of anyone leaving because of the rain and I only met one person who wasn't going to vote because of the rain - a McCain supporter.

36. Donated a canopy and umbrella
to the dem table outside when I voted in Caroline Co (Dawn)this morning. Canopy wasn't needed but the umbrella was welcomed. There was by far the biggest line anybody had ever seen there this morning. Small rural poll. Sadly a man was hit by a car when the line temporarily grew right up to a busy intersection. He apparently got himself out of the road, but was taken away in an ambulance. I hope he gets to vote.

41. It's moving northwest at a pretty decent pace
thus, Tidewater's clearing (as is most of NC), but an outlying batch has reached the Communist country of NoVA -- and Richmond is about to get hammered.

You don't suppose God really does want us to lose? :(
