Unbridled bigotry where I work, but in the end, justice prevailed
I'm updating a workstation. Today, the TVs and radios are allowed to be on. Nearby, one of our people listens to urban radio, not my cup of tea, but nonetheless he's in his glory today. The guy whose workstation I'm working on starts to bitch LOUDLY, "Fuckin N-----, they only voting for Obama because he's a N----- too". This takes me completely by surprise because this guy is part American Indian, and NO ONE has been shit on more than them. This keeps up for about 3 minutes and I don't say a word. When I'm done, I turned and asked him "did you vote"? He says no. My reply "are you registered"? Silence. I ask again, this time he starts to walk away. I yell out "you got nothing to say if you aren't registered to vote".

I went upstairs and reported him to HR. He'll get his just desserts. Scumbag asshole.

For him and all the other bigots coming out of the woodwork, your time is up, tonight's the night the world begins again.

4. I'm seeing a few similar stories on DU today... makes me even more convinced
we can't take this for granted.

I agree with Joe Is One Of Us -- great response. And I'm glad you reported him to HR.

11. HR called us in, he admitted to 'funnin around' I said bullshit
gone for two days without pay. Racial insensitivity is against company policy, NO slurs of any kind are permitted, and you can be disciplined for expletives deleted if someone complains.

Just deserts.

9. Pissed me off because all of the callers on the Urban station were
calling in to tell everyone they had voted and that set him off. Dumb asshole. I was nearly crying with the stories they were telling and he was spewing hate.

7. You don't need to be white to be racist.
White Americans as a whole are actually pretty tolerant. I'm not sure about people from India, but the Latino population is notoriously racist. I've heard that many places in South America still treat black people like slaves.

10. Racism is not a white thing
I really wish people would not be so stupid and think that. I work in the most multicultural school I have EVER heard of and the funny thing is we do not have much cross racial incidents. The intereting thing is that each ethnic group is intra discriminatory. The black kids push down the black kids as do the white kids to the white kids, the Indians piss on each other and the Latino's have an all together different approach with the Cubano's and Puerto Rican's at the top with the Mexicans, South Americans and Domincans at the bottom. Strangest thing I have ever seen.

13. Latino population where?
I know a lot of Latinos, and not one of them are racist. You should find things out for yourself before you pass judgment on an entire race. Sure, there are racist Latinos, but they are not representative of the whole Latin American population.

8. There are a lot of American Indians who are prejudiced against Blacks. That is no surprise.
I'm glad you reported him to HR. He sounds like a nutball.

12. Calling HR was just the RIGHT way to go.
If he can keep his racial slurs under control at work, he shouldn't be working.

14. That's a GREAT story. I bet there are some other people of color
in your work environment, right? I'd be VERY interested in what happens to that N word guy in the future. Our work environment used to hold sensitivity sessions for idiots like that... with stern warnings about behavior in the workplace.

16. I have some Native American friends
And they admit that as a whole native Americans are pretty prejudiced. It's kinda funny after the treatment they have received.

18. today a guy came to the polls...
I have known him for a long time and he had some racist tendencies...

but today...he voted for Obama and was proud to tell me so...

He said "I like what he says and if he does even half of what he has promised...he will be a great president"
