Edited on Tue Nov-04-08 02:18 PM by LibraLiz1973
It had started to rain a bit about 25 minutes before I got to the polling location. I could tell that this vehicle had been there for at least that long because underneath the car was dry. You had to WALK AROUND THIS (which if you look, you can see that the car is parked in front of the walkway- you had to walk across the grass because of this) to get in to the building where the voting was taking place. Once I started taking pictures, they left.

Meanwhile, none of the people at the Democratic table were complaining about it until I did. I was kind of surprised by that.

no its free speech.
Its unpleasant and in many ways despicable but arresting someone for it would be worse.

And it doesn't appear that the vehicle was violating rules about campaigning in proximity to a polling place since you can see Obama/Biden signs in the vicinity as well.

76. then should the folks who put up the obama biden signs that can be seen in the picture
be arrested too?

Of course not. My bet is that those signs are perfectly legal. As is the truck.

The difference is that the truck is obnoxious and the signs aren't.

But free speech means having to put with obnoxious speech.

who would park blocking access to the walk way to the building? Only a self absorbed asshole would do such a thing.

If you find them back at 3 when you vote, call the cops first, then meet them with your pictures from previous blockage.

K&R for the voter suppression file. Miscellaneous obstruction.
Vehicles probably drove into position after poll workers were already inside, so they didn't know.

And left once you took some photos, eh?

Miscellaneous obstruction file. I don't really know what the legality is. Perhaps they don't either since the Van of McPanic sped away so soon.

You know, the kind where you HAVE to register Republican if you are going to work anywhere within

The first time I registered, in 1991, I registered as a Republican.
Never got called for jury duty even one time... until 2004, when I went and
re-registered as a DEM. Since then, I've been called for jury duty so many times, it boggles the mind.
Same thing happened to my mom and my sister.

Man Parks Manure Near Democrats’ Campaign Office

11-04-08
AP News

BUTTE – Democrats are criticizing a 38-year-old man who parked a trailer load of manure across the street from Whitehall's Democratic campaign office to protest presidential hopeful Barack Obama.

Terry Reed, who owns a construction and excavation company in Whitehall, parked the trailer near the office on Saturday. He also posted a sign in the manure mocking Obama's "change we can believe in" slogan as "a load of crap."

"I think Obama's plan is just one big old poop sandwich and we're all going to have to take a bite," he said.

Suzanne Molyneaux, the Obama campaign's election team leader in Whitehall, said traffic came to a near standstill as people stopped to take pictures of the trailer.

"People in Whitehall were upset, they were outraged," she said. "I don't think Whitehall should be represented as this podunk, ignorant community. There are lots of good people here."

Reed said he doesn't plan to move the trailer until after Election Day.

"My only regret is that I didn't do something sooner," he said.

Edited on Tue Nov-04-08 02:38 PM by coalition_unwilling
6:45 a.m. this morning, 15 minutes before polls opened. (Polling place in Mar Vista, California at intersection of Venice Blvd and Beethoven St.)

About 7:15, a yellow school bus pulled up to the stop light. All the kids on the bus looked to be elementary-school aged.

They had several windows on the bus open and were yelling "Obama" at people standing in line outside the polling station. In addition, several of the kids had hand-drawn Obama signs on notebook paper and were holding them up to the windows of the school bus.

It is one of the cutest things I have ever seen in any election and made my heart soar. People standing in line took it in good humor too (except for the old bastard in front of me in line who muttered, "That's illegal" -- about a bunch of little kids, no less :)

On edit: I was posting on DU when this happened on my cell phone and did not happen to have the presence of mind to snap a photo of this with my cell phone camera. I really wish I had. It was SOO CUTE!

66. I am in PA.
And about to head back to the polls. If it is there, you may well see me next on CNN, because I am going to go apeshit.

75. the truck is obnoxious, but I don't see how it is doing anything illegal
According to other posts in this thread, its not blocking access to the polling place. And since you can see other candidate signs in the same picture even closer to the building -- including Obama/Biden signs -- it wouldn't seem to be in violation of "proximity" laws.

Its obnoxious, but free speech can be obnoxious sometimes. But its not illegal from what I can see.

82. If you look closely at the first picture, it looks like the trailer is blocking handicap parking. nt

83. okay, but that's not an election law violation
which is what many posts here have claimed.

If its blocking handicapped parking or access, then it should be ticketed and towed (as should any vehicle doing such).

78. What outrageous fucking assholes! I would've marked that up with a magic marker, or
gasoline and a match (well, ok, maybe I'd only LIKE to do that, but dammit!...)... I hope they're pukin' in their grits in the morning.

80. PLEASE....GO BACK AGAIN AROUND 5PM
at the time when the lines will get long again, and to re-use one of my favorite lines from the movie "Signs", SNAP AWAY LIBRALIZ73, SNAP AWAY! (If you've never seen it, watch it this weekend and it'll make you cry!!)

It was awesome what you accomplished the first time. We all know assholes like this are in essence cowards and because what they were doing was maybe within the letter of the law, you're picture taking made them scurry away like rats....please go back and use your flashbulb to scare them back into the gutter again.

SNAP AWAY, LIBRALLIZ73, SNAP AWAY!!!
