1. I doubt they'll do much unless they think it affects the outcome. n/t

3. I'm one of those lawyers...
Taking a break as I've been working since 6:45 this morning with a bunch of other lawyers fielding election protection phone calls here in Memphis. Not much in the way of dirty tricks (other than a Republican field worker who went in to black neighborhoods and told early voters that their votes didn't count and they needed to vote again). But lots of problems with broken machines, poll officials not following the rules, people going to the wrong polls, etc.

Actually, I think things are a little better than in 2004 when I did the same kind of work on Election Day.

4. Cool, but in all honesty why is there so much problem with broken machines
Someone had a post that in Virginia, they moved the polling place six miles away from the original place

It is good that things are a "little" better than in 2004, but that sure doesn't inspire confidence

12. dumb problems
Biggest issue is poor electrical infrastructure at old churches and schools and trying to run multiple machines through a single outlet. The circuits blow and then you have to run the machines on battery power (if you're lucky) or the machine just fails to function after the power surge.

5. Lots of different things that lots of searching here and there will find
Bottom line monitoring and assembling information. Have stopped voter roll purging in some cases. Standing by to witness and help officially document polling place irregularities.

And certainly, sure, NEVER ENOUGH. There is tons of information to keep up with, since voting is administered state by state. But more has been done to shut down dirty tricks this time than last time already. The GOP's dribs & drabs method of vote stealing is hard to nail down. 1% here, 500 votes there. Dribs and drabs. So we catch some of them and document the irregularities as best we can and be ready to act quickly if contesting is required. No drama, just the facts as ready to present as they can be.

The Obama campaign has done a much better job than others in my recent memory, so I imagine that is what they are doing now. Acting on many planes simultaneously. Being ready and up to date if and when a challenge is required or instituted by others.

But yes please, let us all keep watch as well and retain any documentation that comes to hand regarding election system anomalies.

I presume President Obama will consider establishing a commission to review our voting procedures and suggest national bottom-line criteria and non-partisan administration. And the information and direct experience his team of lawyers obtain will be very useful in that effort.

11. I was supposed to go to Ohio as a voter protection lawyer....
but I badly cut my hand and muscle in my hand on Thursday. I had to see a hand surgeon yesterday to se if it's healing okay, so I couldn't go.

I'm still getting the text message updates, though. They are reporting irregularities at the polls and getting help if needed, reporting long lines, if more ballots are needed, that kind of thing.

They're doing great work! Goooo Team!
