My students gave me an education today.
I teach 6th grade in an inner-city school with a majority Black and Latino population. Today in class I had them write a paragraph on the topic "Why this election is important to me." When they shared their responses, I expected most of them would be along the lines of "If an African-American gets elected President, then I may have a chance some day."

Boy, was I wrong. Although many of them are excited about having a black man as President, mostly they talked about the issues. They were familiar with Obama's positions and how those views would benefit them. His skin color was a secondary concern.

The only person in my room who thought race was the most important issue was me. That's why I love teaching - I get to learn and grow along with my students.

(By the way, for those who may be concerned, I have never mentioned who I'm supporting or endorsed any candidate in my classroom. Still, it came as no surprise to me that Obama won the 6th-grade mock election 100 - 6. :-))

3. It is just going to be old hat soon, what color you are.
I feel good about it and I am in the way old group. You could tell most old people just to vote for Obama's white part if it makes them happy. Maybe they could dip him? Surely he is the best man for our times. His brain is sure nice. He is pretty nice to look at also. I voted for him
