Pictures from Times Square.
Left the office this afternoon for lunch, since I really needed to step away for a bit, otherwise the next 6 hours would just drag on. There was a new CD out this week that I wanted to purchase, so I walked over to the Virgin Megastore in Times Square.

Apparently, there is no respite in this City from Election coverage today. As I was leaving Virgin, they were handing out "I voted in '08" buttons and t-shirts from American Eagle imprinted with the message "VOTE declare yourself", all for free. I was more excited about the "I voted" button, since in all my years of voting, I've never received that sticker everyone else gets after voting.

As I was leaving, I noticed something else going down the block. It turns out, CNN is hosting an event all day in Times Square. Here are some pics from my phone:

Looking Downtown, this large screen was set-up for viewing, and it looks like they were preparing to go Live either this afternoon or this evening.

Looking Uptown, stadium seating set-up for anyone passing by to sit and watch the Election coverage. The infamous Olive Garden, sadly, did not make it into the shot.

A message board where you could express how you were feeling.

My message from me and my guy. I'll spare y'all the "Palin Power" message someone wrote.

Thanks for the free lunch, CNN. Warm pretzels and popcorn. I also got free coffee from Starbucks today. Wonder if I'll get anything else for free today?

And of course, this ad had to come on. :puke:

3. Many times when I get fed-up with this place
I remind myself of all that the City has to offer. I commute from Jersey now, and it's all worth it.

2. they wanted to give free coffee to anyone who voted....
until they found out that it is illegal, you can't give anything to folks to reward them for voting one way or the other.

12. They're still giving away from Tall drips.
From what I've read, you just have to go in and ask for one and don't have to mention you voted.

4. MSNBC is doing their coverage
tonight from Rockefeller Center. They've renamed it "election center" for tonight. Looks like a nice set up from what I've seen and the weather here is quite balmy for November.

16. Yes, it is quite balmy.
If I still lived in the City I'd probably stick around and check out both Live broadcasts.

19. Me too
but I live in Westchester and am getting over being sick (which I got from taking the flu shot!!). I'll watch from my living room and have all my phones charged and ready to go. What's that great expression - I'm as nervous as a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs!!! I've been pretty useless at work because I can't sit still and I haven't been able to eat all day.

11. Had no clue they were doing this.
Already have martini glasses chilling at home, otherwise, I'd propose a meet-up.

Trying to decide if I should go to the CNN coverage in times square, or the MSNBC coverage at election plaza.

10. No.
I figured, since I was surrounded by a lot of non-English speaking visitors, they probably had no clue what the commercial was even about.

Besides, I also figured that if I booed, it might have come across as me booing Obama.

20. I didn't know about those two.
There is a Krispy Kreme in Penn, maybe I'll grab one for the train ride home.

I'm surprised my phone pics turned out OK. I keep kicking myself for not carrying my camera with me, since I do spend a lot of time traveling around the City, and you never know what you might see...

21. The buzz on the street today was palpable.
And I didn't even get a chance yet to comment on all the well wishes on he "Express Yourself" board from people not from this country, visiting the city on vacation. And they were all for Obama.

The positive energy around town, though, has been kind of overwhelming.
