Wtf? McCain campaign files federal suit against Virginia..... |
|
...because they're seeking to extend by 10 days the deadline for the state's acceptance of MILITARY members' federal absentee ballots!!! So, he's afraid of the military now?! http://hamptonroads.com/print/486648

1. Hate to say it, but you got it backwards |
|
McCain's suing to extend the deadline, not prevent it.

4. OOps. considering the troops overseas are donating to Obama in a big way over McCain |
|
I'd say that they're shooting themselves in the foot.

I hope that this gets done. Military polls seem to be favoring Obama more recently anyway. :D Military campaign donations have definitely been favoring Obama.

3. In effect, possibly delaying the result of the election for up to 10 days |
|
The military has every right to have their vote counted but wouldn't today be the deadline to actually submit your vote. I would think that the votes could be shipped out on planes as soon as midnight hits whereever and be counted up within a couple of days.

But I believe in 2000 ballots was cast after election day. And flew back "special". With no post marks. Since Florida has several military bases, and 2000 election was so Hinky, That is what has brought the issue up front for American Voters.
Florida doesn't have state income taxes. Military persons claim a state, and they are taxed based upon that state. Claim florida, you have no income taxes. Not an issue, except when it comes to voting. Leaves massive votes by people who have no connection to the area.
It was considered unpatriotic to not accept a ballot cast by someone in the military, even if it didn't have a postmark showing what day it was mailed, yet received over a week late.
One would think all such ballots would be required to be at the SOE on the day of election, to be counted election night. Period. But so long as they are post marked on that date, they are counted. But even with the post mark, some places set limits on how long they wait for those ballots, before closing the books.

7. If they're postmarked in time |
|
...they become part of the 'official' count anyway.
