HELP! Relative may be purged from voter rolls in FL... What to do?
Edited on Tue Nov-04-08 03:24 PM by Brotherjohn
My sister-in-law says she found out this AM she was not registered. Something to do w/ Homestead Exemption and being purged (she moved a couple of years ago and now lives at a different address from the one where she was registered).

Looking online, I found this:
"The main reason for the dropoff is a state law that requiring that in odd-numbered years, voter rolls be purged of people who have moved but never updated their addresses and those who have skipped two straight statewide elections.

Voters who move and don't respond to mail notices from an elections office are listed as inactive. They can still vote, but they are not counted as registered voters.

An inactive voter who skips two consecutive statewide elections is removed and must re-register to vote."

http://www.sptimes.com/2007/08/06/State/State_s_voter_rolls_s.shtml

Could it be she's merely "inactive" and not "listed" as registered, but CAN still vote? I would assume at the polling place at which she registered originally (old address).

I couldn't find the State of FL web page to check registrations, to see what it might have said.

Input please? ANYONE?

1. Request a provisional ballot. Bring ID and proof of residency (to answer any illegal objections)

2. First thing you should do is call 866-OUR-VOTE
http://www.866ourvote.org/

I'm not in Florida, so I can't give you any specific advice beyond that.

5. THANKS (to all)! Tried this #, and they backed up what the article said. She's going to try...
Hopefully it'll work... Every single vote in FL counts!
