Puerto Rico: "Election Day" Holiday |
|
The island businesses are shutdown today, more so than I have seen during other island holidays.
We need to conduct our election like they do here in PR so EVERYONE has a chance to get to the polls without the hassle of trying to do it in a 2 or 3 hour time frame before or after work.
Driving from San Juan to Arecibo today I see little traffic with most everyone at the polls. Election Day is a big deal here and they really celebrate. People sitting outside car sunroofs, hanging out windows waving flags and beeping horns, yelling, etc., and the PDP (Popular Democratic Party) followers drive around with a palm frond hanging out of the car trunk dragging on the road. Not something our mainland highway patrol would tolerate, but down here it's no big thing.
Hopefully President Obama can fix our election day mess and END republican voter suppression and the vote stealing dirty tricks once and for all.

2. That's for sure, and good for them |

Until this Obama candidacy, I didn't think the mainland voters would ever get pumped up like they do on the island. They take their politics VERY seriously here.
