Heading west on the Outer Loop of the Beltway, you encounter a spectacular view of the Mormon Temple

near the Georgia Avenue exit. Every so often, a railroad overpass near the temple is painted with the words "Surrender Dorothy". (The place really does look like Oz.) Anyway, the local news crews always send out a team to film it, it makes the evening news, and everyone has a good yuck before it's painted over in a day or so.
Based on the $20,000,000 the Mormon church spent trying to force Prop 8 down the throats of Californians, don't be surprised if the message you see sometime soon on that overpass reads "Hate Lives Here." Now I would never advocate any such defacing of public property, and I would never do such a thing, and besides, I've put all my climbing gear away for the season. But I'm just sayin' ...

2. Lived in DC for 20 years
ALWAYS loved it when that overpass got it's "Surrender Dorothy" message with the "Emerald City" in the background. Made me laugh every time I passed it on the Beltway

5. Oh, how I miss the mid-atlantic.
Hello from a Maryland transplant, who was lucky enough to be stationed at Ft. Belvoir.

8. I remember that temple -- creepy. The Mormons really have atrocious taste in architecture.
The one in the Oakland Hills is ugly, too.
