Today, of all days, I get a torn retina and have emergency eye surgery.
I was at work when the symptoms hit...at that time I was planning on leaving to go vote.

Having the whole experience and then the laser surgery was a frightening experience, but it's actually miraculous that they can save your eyesight this way.

BUT, ALL I COULD THINK ABOUT WAS GETTING TO THE POLLS TO VOTE! I called my son after he was done working, and he came by and picked me up to go to our local polling place. You should have seen the judge of elections when I walked in wearing dark sunglasses, and #1 son walked in sporting his mohawk.
(This is very rural, red area of Westmoreland County, western PA).

He had to sign a form because he had to assist me because my eyesight was compromised today. It ended up being a BEAUTIFUL experience, my son helping me cast my vote for Barack Obama in this historic election...and I got to proudly stand there while he cast his.

What a proud and memorable moment.

8. Boy, you've got that right!
I'm sitting there getting my eye lasered, saying to the doctor in a panic stricken voice, "But, I didn't get to vote yet."

He must have thought I was a lunatic! :)

10. This is actually the second one I've had.
The first one was really bad, hemorrhaged, and almost detached. That one left me with some permanent vision loss.

This time, though, the symptoms were much more recognizable and led me to get the treatment immediately.
I think the outcome will be much better...just like the election! :)

7. I'm so glad you made the right choice to take care of yourself first
(It's not really a choice, if you want to hang on to your sight... so I'm glad you took the emergency seriously.)

Thank goodness you'll be okay. And how great that you still made it to the polls. Wow, what a day!

9. Congrats on getting to vote
and all the best in healing up. I'm high-risk myself for detachment. I figure one of mine will fall off during my dissertation defense or something!

Heal well, and enjoy the election returns!

19. Best wishes for a full and speedy recovery: my wife is being treated for a
spurious blood vessel that ruptured in her right retina by getting a series of injections in that retina with two down and one to go. Scary stuff for an infection would likely cause blindness. :D
