Bush makes Hoover and Nixon look like good Presidents. We could have waited until 1212 for Obama, but I do think your question is legitimate. Is there a chance that Obama wouldn't have won in 1212 after eight years of Kerry? Yes there is a possibility. America could be waiting until 2020 or even later for our first African-American President.

to much damage in the last 4 years. To many dead in Iraq, to many jobs and house lost. To many people without proper health care. And SCOTUS fucked up for decades, again
I love my new President, but I could have waited until 2012

28. That's a difficult question... |
|
...and one that will take a clearer head than I have tonight. I can only say that, as traumatic as the '04 loss was, I do think that "things happen as they should." The country would not have been ready for the change we're seeing tonight, if the last 4 years with all their horrors hadn't happened as they did. '04 victory would have set us on a higher road sooner and avoided a lot of suffering short-term - but what we're seeing tonight may be the total collapse of the republican ideology. And that's a long-term paradigm shift.

If it took the country getting this angry, and this screwed, for people who might not otherwise be willing to take a chance on a young black man, then I don't know, maybe it was worth it.

37. Ask someone that lost their job. |
|
Ask someone that lost a family member due to high health care costs. Ask someone that lost a son or daughter in Iraq or Afghanistan.
Wait...don't ask them because it will hurt them deeply.
No. It absolutely was not worth it. We are all worse off today because of it. Period.

Bush alienated us from the rest of the world, our economy is fucked, the national debt is out of control, lives lost in an unnecessary war, most of the country cannot afford decent healthcare, etc, etc. Quite a mess that will be inherited.

Actually not just no but HELL NO. And same for Gore in 2000. The Bush years will never be anything but a giant step backwards, though hopefully America learns something from it.

How many Iraqi civilians lost their lives? How many people lost their jobs in the US? How many people lost their homes, their health insurance. How many people lost their jobs, their savings, their retirement accounts?
NO, It wasn't anywhere close to being worth the wait.
