We're seeing the fracturing of the republican party into various pieces, and one of those pieces is the religious nutcases. Right now, their standard bearer is Palin. No other candidate - Thompson, Giuliani, Romney, or even Huckabee - excited them as much as she did. Right now, I can't think of anyone who can knock her off her perch except if Gingrich sees an opening as he's gotten Dobson's blessing and forgiveness for his past marital infidelities.
