I remember 1980. I remember that election all too well, still. That was when the meanness came out in America. Until that time, elections were for the most part pretty straightforward affairs. When 1980 rolled around, the Repubs embraced Nixon's idea of destroying a candidate instead of just winning. And it's been mean in America ever since. I thought that things might change under Clinton, but they really didn't - the mood of the country was still bullying and brutal.

Tonight, we rejected the meanness. Finally.
