Go home DINO!
I was never a huge fan of Gregoire. My support was lukewarm, but she's a damn spot better than that prick Rossi!!! WOOT!

Especially considering how stoking anti-Seattle resentment has been such a big part of Rossi's campaign strategy.

|
It was dragged out in the courts long after her inauguration and Rossi and his voters were VERY slighted. This time, the people spoke with a louder voice. It was also helped by the fact that there was no third-party candidate to play the spoiler. Libertarians have a strong showing here in WA.

Constant attack ads from both camps - anti-Seattle signs on roads (that the Seattle tax base pays for, natch) all over rural WA (their narrative is that Seattle "stole" the 2004 Gregoire vs. Rossi match.)
I certainly voted more to keep Rossi out than Gregoire in, so I can easily see people just getting turned off from both of them completely.

When Dino started running for this office again, he didn't realize how low his idol The Chimp was going to sink. At that point, he thought he could recover a deficit of only 133 votes.
But in a year where positive campaigns won big - like President Obama's, Dino the Dumbass struck out with the most negative campaign in the history of Washington State.
Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if Republicans voted for Chris. At least whatever remains of the Dan Evans/Ralph Munro wing of the party.

31. Nothing's certain yet -- only 45% reporting... |
|
Last time around, Gregoire got off to this kind of lead, but Rossi came back and actually took over the lead after late-mailed absentees were counted about a week later, then lost it on the recount. (Remember, Washington state is mail-only voting everywhere except King and Pierce counties, and you only have to get your ballot postmarked by Election Day to have it count. Lots and lots of votes in this election are still in thousands of USPS mailbags, waiting to be delivered and tallied.)
With only a 4% lead, and the prospect of new vote counts going on for at least the next week, this one's far from over. Check back again by around November 15th or 20th.

At 10:50pm, KING-5 (NBC) has just released a statement from the Rossi campaign, saying that they are NOT conceding.
They are saying that there are MANY more votes yet to be counted. (This is true...my own county, Pierce, has only released their FIRST numbers just before 10:30pm, due to computer problems.) The final numbers aren't in from Spokane, King, or Snohomish counties, either.
Despite what the networks say...this is NOT over yet. Stay tuned.

Unless he wins big in Pierce, I don't see him pulling ahead though. Most of the rural counties show +90 reporting, and Rossi sure as hell isn't netting 50000 votes out of what's left of King and Snohomish - he'll probably lose ground there as they come in.

There's no term limits on the governor's office in Washington, but third terms are rare. If Chris doesn't want one, it's an open seat. Will the Repukes run Dino a third time? In this state, the party is certainly dumb enough to do so.
But I'm not even going to stress about that until at least 2011 :)

for those of you that don't know, he didn't want people to think he was a Rethuglican so he was on the ballot as "GOP" instead. come to think of it, did it say GOP Party? that would be even funnier. Then last night he was on TV giving what SOUNDED like an acceptance speech! I do hope he finds a new career soon.
