I'll tell you folks who wonder about Missouri. Hate radio is supreme here, and Palin is their queen. There are literally like 3 blue strongholds, KC, STL and Columbia. The rest of the state continues to crystallize their hatred and anger. My county (Cole) voted McCain/Palin by a 2-1 margin today. I guarantee you that if Palin weren't on the ticket it would've been more like 1.5-1. Its the hate, anger and self-righteous xenophobia they thrive on.

13. Personal anecdote from voting today

My county, my precinct is red as hell. As in, there are no Obama signs anywhere. If I go up to Columbia, I see Obama signs/stickers everywhere.

I've voted for two presidentials here, and this is my fourth congressional. In every prior election, I waltzed in, threw down my driver's license and went to the voting booth. Optical scan stuff here, with a central tabulator (cough).

Tonight, there was this mean looking woman at the door, demanding voter registration cards. I showed her my drivers license and informed her that I've voted here in the past four elections. She stared hard at my license for a few seconds before she waived me to the very small line of voters. I was astounded. First of all, I fit right in with the mouthbreather demographic. In a lineup with mouthbreathing freepers, nobody could spot the liberal (me). Maybe it was the shit-eating grin on my face.

Here's the good news, even though we lost by a 2-1 margin. This was the first time I'd ever seen minorities and young folks in significant numbers at my precinct. Usually its old, wrinkly white folks, beligerant SUV moms, etc.
