Lest we forget our GLBT comrades...
Edited on Wed Nov-05-08 02:47 AM by Kurt_and_Hunter
GLBT are getting mistreated in many states tonight via ballot propositions.

Hopefully Prop 8 will lose, but either way it has been amply demonstrated that 'traditional marriage' initiatives did way better than McCain did, state by state.

One proposition bans adoption by unmarried couples of any orientation just to ban gay adoption. (Since gay couples cannot, by definition, meet the marriage test.) Yet single people can still adopt!

Not trying to be Debbie Downer. Just wanted to shout out to everyone experiencing some bittersweet feelings in the midst of an otherwise wonderful night.

10. I'm extremely sad. I hope that this can be fought in the courts and overturned.

No one should be discriminated against. We cannot let anyone suffer, no matter who they are.

2. Florida's passage of Amendment 2 spoiled my night
I really though enough of us here would take a stand against discrimination to defeat it. Hoping now that CA can pull off defeating Prop 8.

7. Florida passed that shit? This year, no less?
Fuck, can Key West just secede and te3ll them to fuck off?

Crist should be ashamed of his bright orange closet assed self for letting this happen.

15. Yep. 62/38.
Even Broward County, which went for Obama by almost 70/30, voted in favor of it. It needed 60% to pass, and it STILL went through.

Key West's Monroe County is the ONLY county in the entire state that voted against it.

4. Straight married CA parent here, freaking PISSED at this Nazism.
I can't believe 8 is even close. WTF is wrong with this fucking state?

Pardon my language, This Prop hurts California, like a sharp stick in the eye. Like 209, or 187. Like deregulation of the power industry.

Arrggh. California's apparently got its share of heads-in-asses.

Freaks. Makes me want to run a Prop banning Fundamentalist Christian marriage. And don't forget out-of-state Mormons. Yah, seven child brides for the holy old insanos, and they want to legislate morality. Freaks. Haters.

This had better lose. Dammit.

is between a man and a woman, so I don't think he'd spend any political capital on this issue anyway. Far too many Dems voted YES for my comfort.

8. This is the biggest dissapointment of the night for me
I thought these things would go down hard with an obama win but its not looking great in several places right now.

However some of these things seem so ridiculous they are begging for a challenge all the way to the supreme court where hopefully with a couple obama judges we can settle this thing.

12. Yes, I'm disappointed with the California Proposition 8 results.
Edited on Wed Nov-05-08 03:16 AM by drumwolf
Proposition 8, along with the booing crowd at McCain's concession speech, should serve as a grim reminder to us that even though the wingnuts may be down, they are not out.

And I'm kicking myself for not donating any of my money or time to help defeat Proposition (H)8. I donated $250 to Obama's campaign and spent a good chunk of the past week doing volunteer data entry work at his campaign HQ in SF, but I didn't do a damn thing in terms of other elections. By the time I realized how short-sighted I was being, it was too little too late.

Just comparing the county by county election results, you can see overlap in the votes for Obama and for Prop 8.

explain to the american people why this discrimination must not be allowed, why its not constitutional and that religion has nothing to do with it. churches would not be affected by gay marriage, and children would not be forced to learn about it. this needs to be fixed during his presidency, at the very least. it must be. its a blatant disregard for the constitution, for equal rights.

21. Screw these hateful people.
That's why diversity needs to be discussed as a thing of appreciation. And that is why we have to embark on a honest discussion about accepting all of our different communities, be it of color, of different sexual orientation, beliefs or gender.

I'm tired of people who want to "ignore things".

That's why crap like this gets passed.

22. To the GLTB DUers:
I am so sorry that there are so many closed-minded hateful people in the US, who continue to deny you the rights you deserve.

It saddens me, and angers me so much.

People deserve full civil rights, regardless of their color or their religion or their sexual orientation.

I have yet to have my marriage destroyed by any GLTB person I've ever known.

I'm just so sorry. :grouphug:
