Now that we have victory, what's next? Remember Obama's call for us to participate

That wasn't just a call to participate in the campaign, as vital as that was. It's an on going call to participate in the process of government. There is much that needs to be done, and informed citizen participation is a vital part of getting things done.
Please read through the Democratic Party Platform and see which planks really resonate with you - the aspects you can be passionate about promoting. Commit yourself to being an informed citizen on one or more vital issues, and to making sure our political representatives know the facts of these vital issues.

Suggested areas of participation:
1. Electoral reform - ending the practices of voter supression / an auditable, verifiable paper trail
for every election.
2. Act on global climate change with the urgency this problem deserves. Restore and strengthen
environmental regulations discarded by the Bush adminstration.
3. Reform the so called "free trade" agreements to make sure that future trade agreements include strong protections for labor rights and environmental standards.
4. Stimulate the economy through a "green New Deal," creating jobs for Americans and ending our dependence on fossil fuels.
5. Health Care for every American.
6. Strengthening/protecting a woman's right to choose.
7. End the war in Iraq. Consider the best course of action to take in Afghanistan and get U.N./global support for that course of action.
8. Fund education K through college, allowing equal access for all.
9. Restore Civil Liberties lost during the Bush Administration.
10. Regulate financial and energy markets to prevent a repeat of the last 8 years.
