Call me crazy -- but I bet Bush actually winds up pretty decent in transition.
Utter devastation of the country over the past 8 years aside, I actually think Bush could be surprisingly, personally helpful to Obama as the transition of administrations begins. I can envision Bush likening it to Obama joining a special fraternity or something, and I bet he'd be pleased as punch to show Obama where the good take-out is, so to speak.

Perhaps I'm crazy for thinking that, but while Bush is a dick, I'm betting he's a dick that is eager to be done with being President and is also a dick that's ready to let loose a bit. Perhaps I'm crazy for typing this out loud here on DU as well, but if you're overlooking the mental image of Bush and Obama "pallin' around" in the White House and what that mental image might do to the insides of a lurking Freeper's mind, then, just maybe, you won't think I'm so nuts.

29. Keep dreaming. Bush will not face war trials and Obama will not allow him to be taken in custody
if Bush travels overseas.

The faster you face up to that the better off you'll be.

35. Absolutely true.
Obama would not allow it simply because it's a dangerous precedent to set. Even if he believes it's deserved, doing so would be essentially setting a doctrine that would allow HIM to be so captured. Ain't gonna happen, not if he's smart (which he very much is).

Invaded Somalia and left Clinton with an international incident to deal with right off the bat.

I still don't trust them.

10. Bush just wants to be done with it...
The Onion, as usual, probably stated the truth most clearly.

Bush: "Can I Stop Being President Now?"

WASHINGTON—In a press conference held this morning on the White House lawn, President Bush formally asked the assembled press corps and members of his own administration if, in light of today's election, he could stop being the president now. "So it's over, right? Can I stop being president now?" Bush said after striding to the podium in a Texas Rangers cap and flannel shirt, carrying a fully packed suitcase. "Let's just say I'm done as of now. Presidency over." When informed by Washington Post reporter David Broder that his presidency would continue through early January, Bush stared at him quizzically, sighed, and shuffled silently back into the White House.

14. If Bush/Cheney really wanted to be helpful they would resign, Pelosi would become Pres
and appoint Obama VP and congress would approve his nomination in special session. He is sworn in--and Pelosi resigns (wins her special election to be returned to congress and becomes speaker again), and Obama appoints Biden VP and together they serve out the remaining weeks of Bush's presidency and then on Jan 20, 2009 Obama and Biden are officially sworn in for their elected term.

16. He's too busy putting up more roadblocks and deregulation to make it hard for Obama
Bush owes nothing to Obama but everything to his loyal contributors and Repub faithful for which he will give everything away that is possibly in his power to give away into private hands before leaving office. He and Cheney et al are the sneakiest most unethical sobs ever to hold power so you can bet they will sabotage Obama and Dems in every way possible, even if they are backstabbing while appearing to be gracious.

17. I agree. The Bushies, not so much, but Bush himself, probably.
I like your use of the phrase "special fraternity," because Bush is nothing better or worse than a dumb frat guy. He was such an awful President because he surrounded himself with insane and incompetent right-wing ideologues, and because his dumb-frat-guy mindset kept him from ever challenging (or, hell, even paying attention to) anything they said on anything.

I've read that he personally dislikes Obama, but at the same time, I think his much-debated "loyalty" will eclipse his personal disdain for our 44th President, and he'll happily show his new frat brother the ropes because of it.

I think former Clinton staffers will be more useful than Bush, but at the same time I'm sure Bush will have a small but positive part to play as the sun sets on the worst administration in history.

33. Unfortunately, you're faith is misplaced.
I'm reminded of people who tried to console themselves with Bush's appointment to office in 2000 by saying that he'd surround himself with good people. Nope. He surrounded himself with some of the most evil, venal, selfish, and corrupt people ever. He's still surrounded by them and like a spoiled child who has been told he has to share his toys, will do everything possible, including breaking those toys, to keep from sharing.

Really, he has the emotional maturity of a seven year old.

37. Wouldn't surprise me
I remember being appalled that Bush 1 and Clinton seemed to have become friends when they were both out of office. Presidents do live in a world that we can never really understand. At some level they probably enjoy having at least a couple people that get it to talk to. The staff will probably run around lysolling everything the nasty liberals touch though.

41. Call me crazy as well but I think you may be right
He's petty, mean and vindictive so it will be hard for him but I think he knows with his ratings down the gurgler and his presidency in tatters, he has one last chance to at least restore some credibility to his legacy by ensuring a smooth transition. He can be gracious and magnamonious when he wants to be -although those moments are sadly few and far between -and I think this will be one of the times when he will be
