Anyone else think McCain may have been a little relieved to have lost?
Watching his speech last night, I thought i glimpsed a bit of the McCain from 2000. He'd lost that grumpy old man look and actually seemed like a nice guy again. He's 72 years old, and as much as he may have wanted to be president, I know that all these months of campaigning had to have taken a toll on him and his health. He's probably not as up to the job as he was when he first announced he was running. Add to that a rotten economy, a VP choice that he clearly regrets, and the prospect of screwing up the presidency and leaving a legacy like that of Bush. Though he wouldn't admit it I think he was at least partly happy it's finally over and he can go back to the senate after a much needed rest.

2. yes - I got the feeling that he was happy to be done with it
perhaps he was a bit disgusted by the folks who were at his rallies ???

just maybe he decided winning via hate wasn't his style..

7. Just last night he had to wave down the boos from the crowd
whenever he mentioned Obama. He looked genuinely uncomfortable about the booing.

6. Dont be fooled
The man is an angry bitter arrogant man. he is mean spirited. He was gracious in his defeat, yes, but he was trying every dirty underhanded trick to win

11. It'll be interesting to see how McCain handles the next two years
You figure he's not going to run for Senate againso he doesn't have to answer to any political masters.

That leaves him to vote however he wants to vote so it'll be interesting to see what he does with that freedome

12. You're right, I think his true character will come out
I'm waiting to see what that is, and hopeful it's better than what we've seen the last year.

13. As a long, longtime McCain constituent--an emphatic NO. He was relieved it was over;

but he has wanted to be president since he entered the Naval Academy.

He will emerge an embittered man--bookmark this thread for a few months later and see if I'm right.
