3. Mandates are oversold in politics |
what matters is that you win the stage and when you win the stage, you have to perform. If you don't the next guy gets a try. We've won the stage. Now time to deliver. If we deliver what we promise to deliver and it achieves what we say it will achieve, we get to keep the stage the next time around.
Don't worry about mandates. Worry about getting what we want done while we have the stage.

8. They gave us their Terry Schiavo freak show with Bush's "mandate". |
Remember that? It was right after his second inaugural and they were damned determined to put on an ideological freak show about respect for life or some kind of horseshit.

7. He won the popular vote by over 7 million and counting. |
He mopped the floor with McCain in the electoral vote, and swept in big majorities (though not quite filibuster-proof, alas) in both houses of congress. I guess it depends what the definition of "mandate" is. (Oh, right--a "mandate" is whenever a Republican wins any elected office by even the narrowest of margins. I get it now!)

9. If Bush 50.7% = Mandate then Obama 52.3% = Mandate |
Obama has a mandate by the Яepublican definition. With a puny 50.7% popular vote, Bush declared a "mandate". Obama has 52.3%.

11. President Obama's mandate comes from his 52% majority of electorate |
voting for him combined with all of the NEW dem senators who will be joining the already democratic majority senate. Democrats won up and down the ballots all over the country. The message to Barack Obama from America is: "We are sick and tired of republicans running the show, so show us what you can do.. we trust you to do it right!"
