Its us he's most worried about. Are we going to seize the power he has grabbed for us, or will we slack off and allow them to rise up again?
He can't do much without us. We have to back him up.

6. He certainly does have a mandate! |
|
Bush came into office claiming a mandate in 2000 when he actually lost the popular vote. Of course we don't want Obama to emulate Bush in any way.

12. But, that only applies to Republicans |
|
for a Democrat to have a mandate, every voter must have voted for Obama, including the ones that were eligible to register, but did not.

9. Mandates are oversold in politics |
|
What matters is that you win the stage and when you win the stage, you have to perform. If you don't the next guy gets a try. We've won the stage. Now is time to perform, time to deliver. If we deliver what we promise to deliver and it achieves what we say it will achieve, we get to keep the stage the next time around.
So really, don't worry about mandates. That's just a parlor game. Worry instead about getting done what we want get done while we have the stage and establishing that it was the right thing to do, that it brought about what we said it would bring about.
