My Freeper Fraternity Brother is melting down! |
|
One of my best friends (awesome guy if we don't talk politics). Can't take it that Obama won and Dole lost. Deleting my facebook posts rubbing it in after listening to it for over three years about Bush.
Karma, baby. BTW, he's still a good friend and a wonderful guy. . .just misguided in politics.

1. Be kind to him, as I'm sure you are. Be his friend. Maybe he'll |
|
gradually see the light. Remind him that Dole's campaign was especially nasty. I bet you can win him over eventually.
And remind him that the economy is still unstable. The projections are for unemployment to hit 8% before a turnaround. 2009 is going to be a rough year for Americans.

That's right. I found many people of all stripes and beliefs truly want to learn. They look around and see the things that have gone wrong, they care about things like torture, wiretapping, our economy, the wars and they don't like all of the negativity and demonization. I've had McCain voters and a few even more hard-right types who were blown away at some of my explanations and analysis about certain issues, like foreign policy, economics and the faux-controversies like Wright and Ayers. So much so that a few started emailing me and asking me policy, cultural and history questions. One woman thought I was a history professor, lol. But honestly it's just standard fare around here. Pick up a book, read some papers and blogs, study up on nonpartisan analyses and tune out the sensationalistic parts of reporting. People are eager to find out what went wrong and how we get back on course. That's a good role for DUers, we don't need to gloat, we need to get our message out there for the good of our friends, family, neighbors and country. And the world too.

2. I had a friend like that |

And we talked politics all the time. Almost getting in a fistfight type of arguments, lol. But now he's seen the light. He watched me predict so many things that came true that now he basically agrees with me on everything, lol. I get along well with lots of Republicans, I've done some nonpartisan political work with them, like registering voters etc. Most are good people, it's the vocal hate and fear-filled minority of the party that hurts them.

3. Perhaps you're a better person than me, or maybe I've got a different perspective due to my age, |
|
but I can't have friends like that. Saying it's 'just politics' doesn't work for me - it affects their - and MY - views on so many things, and everyday life... so it's not, as a co-worker said once, 'just every 4 years'. To me it affects EVERY DAY - what's happening in everything from foreign relations to the economy to the environment.
