Is it normal for the sitting pres to publically congratulate the newly elected one.....
... like Bush is doing now with his press conference?

If Clinton did it, I dont remember it.

1. UGH.
all morning I have been listening to Obama's speeches. every time Obama speaks i get goosebumps. everytime Bush speeaks i feel sick. what a contrast.

4. It's interesting...
I think Bush wants to manage his own legacy a bit.

I also think Bush recognizes the significance of Obama's election and knows he oughta show it.

I'm sure some of his GOP allies also want him to weigh in on the "story" as a way to help frame the coming struggle they have to reorganize and redefine the party. The GOP are bleeding profusely and they have to regain some credibility as something besides hate mongers.

Mccain's performance really blew it last night.

Not that he didnt try to be dignified and supportive of Obama. But because his crowd continued to show the mob nativist and fascist tones of his campaign. I wouldnt be surprised if some of Bush's people saw that and immediately said "we need to get out there and do this right."

6. We didn't know who won that election until way after.
And it was still contentious. If Clinton did it, it would have been weird.
