I'm sorry to those of you from states that stayed red, and ones that acted red |

Your states let you down. They sullied a day you should have been able to celebrate and enjoy as freely and uncomplicatedly as those of us in NYC and New England, for example, whose states banished all Repubs from our Congressional delegations. And NC and VA, who bucked the Southern tide!
And I'm sorry for those of you in blue states who showed red streaks last night, allowing disgraceful idiots like Norm Coleman and Michele Bachmann to hold their positions.
But I'm really sorry for our LGBT brothers and sisters who, though adding one openly gay representative to the House from Arizona (I think), had confirmed over and over for them that America's mind is too closed and its heart too small.
I know this is small consolation, but my joy over yesterday is diminished when I know so many of us are still in sorrow.

1. As happy as I am for the nation, I'm sad about many statewide ballot/constitutional issues |

We had our own anti-gay act pass here in Arkansas. :banghead:

I listened to the rw blowhards for three hours in line yesterday. I knew we had a few Obama people in line, because they were so quiet and well-mannered. Honestly, if these Repug loudmouths really had all the answers (like they think they do), why aren't they on the ballot? I kept telling myself that my vote counts at least in the popular vote "mandate" if nowhere else.
The local (Charleston) paper this morning talks about how admirable Obama is...the same editors who regurgitated every Hannity/Savage/Limbaugh talking point during its endorsement of McCain on Sunday. No integrity there, whatsoever.

4. From again red Arizona, thanks. We did our best and I share the victory regardless. |

Things are changing, though; I see this becoming a more civil, patient nation that will renew its belief in fairness and equality for EVERYONE. We took two steps forward as a ntion while many states (including mine) took one step backward. It's still progress.
This is a beginning. Rosa Parks had to work to near exhaustion to create a sea change.
It will happen--for all of my sisters and brothers who have yet to realize the promises of America. We just have to keep our eyes on the prize--it is so much more reachable this morning.
