*** Young voters overwhelmingly against Prop 8; President elect Obama against Prop 8 ***
Edited on Wed Nov-05-08 10:47 AM by thesubstanceofdreams
There is a future of equality ahead. Prop 8 failed by 26 points among voters 18-29 and by 32 among voters 18-24. The president elect was against this measure. Although Obama and Biden do not support marriage equality (in my opinion they do in they hearts), they don't support taking away rights and Obama appeared in ads against Prop 8. Especially as an African American, Obama will be a huge positive role model against bigotry.

Obama and the generational shift point to a brighter future ahead.

I'm so sorry it will take a bit longer to get there than we had hoped

1. Ypu our younger generation broke one barier last night
they will break many more. I am saddened by some of the results from last night but I am filled with a sense of hope for the future . We will get past this and we will have gay marriage soon i truly believe that.

3. I think that this is why I perceive things so differently from a lot of DU'ers

For instance, regional bigotry - over 70% of the people in my age group voted for Obama here in North Carolina. So yeah - I just don't see my state as a mass of racist white Christian Republican male NASCAR fan clones. When I go out, I see men and women, white and black and Hispanic and Asian and Indian and Middle Eastern people, people of all faiths and no faith, people of all sexual orientations, people of all political stripes, people who enjoy every type of sport and hobby. And so when people hate on "red states" on here, I hear them hating on all those beautiful people.

And yeah, I know very few people my age and younger who are homophobic - I fully believe that if the old people leave us a world worth living in that we'll have gay marriage when we're in power.

4. Is he? A lot of his supporters voted to toss us under the bus... They did not get the message.
