What are your theme songs for today?
Two keep running through my head:

Neil Young's "Looking For A Leader":

Lookin' for a Leader
To bring our country home
Re-unite the red white and blue
Before it turns to stone

Lookin' for somebody
Young enough to take it on
Clean up the corruption
And make the country strong

Walkin' among our people
There's someone who's straight and strong
To lead us from desolation
And a broken world gone wrong

Someone walks among us
And I hope he hears the call
And maybe it's a woman
Or a black man after all

Yeah maybe it's Obama
But he thinks that he's too young
Maybe it's Colin Powell
To right what he's done wrong

America has a leader
But he's not in the house
He's waling here among us
And we've got to seek him out

Yeah we've got our election
But corruption has a chance
We got to have a clean win
To regain confidence

America is beautiful
But she has an ugly side
We're lookin' for a leader
In this country far and wide

We're lookin' for a leader
With the great spirit on his side

Someone walks among us
And I hope he hears the call
And maybe it's a woman
Or a black man after all

And my Morrissey's "America Is Not The World":

America, your head's too big
Because America, your belly's too big
And I love you, I just wish you'd stay where you is

In America, the land of the free, they said
And of opportunity, In a just and a truthful way
But where the president is never black, female or gay, and until that day
You've got nothing to say to me to help me believe

America, it brought you the hamburger
Well America, you know where you can shove your hamburger
And don't you wonder why in Estonia they say
Hey you, you big fat pig, you fat pig, you fat pig

Steely blue eyes with no love in them scan the world
And a humourless smile with no warmth within greets the world
And I, I have got nothing, to offer you, no-no-no-no-no
Just this heart deep and true, which you say you don't need

See with your eyes, touch with your hands, please
Hear through your ears, know in your soul, please
For haven't you me with you now
And I love you, I love you, I love you. And I love you, I love you, I love you.

3. Bob Dylan:
Come gather 'round people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown
And accept it that soon
You'll be drenched to the bone.
If your time to you
Is worth savin'
Then you better start swimmin'
Or you'll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come writers and critics
Who prophesize with your pen
And keep your eyes wide
The chance won't come again
And don't speak too soon
For the wheel's still in spin
And there's no tellin' who
That it's namin'.
For the loser now
Will be later to win
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come senators, congressmen
Please heed the call
Don't stand in the doorway
Don't block up the hall
For he that gets hurt
Will be he who has stalled
There's a battle outside
And it is ragin'.
It'll soon shake your windows
And rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come mothers and fathers
Throughout the land
And don't criticize
What you can't understand
Your sons and your daughters
Are beyond your command
Your old road is
Rapidly agin'.
Please get out of the new one
If you can't lend your hand
For the times they are a-changin'.

The line it is drawn
The curse it is cast
The slow one now
Will later be fast
As the present now
Will later be past
The order is
Rapidly fadin'.
And the first one now
Will later be last
For the times they are a-changin'

14. Queen, "One Vision"

One man one goal one mission
One heart one soal just one solution
One flash of light yeah one God one vision

One flesh one bone
One true religion
One voice one hope
One real decision
Wowowowo gimme one vision

No wrong no right
Im gonna tell you theres no black and no white
No blood no stain
All we need is one world wide vision

One flesh one bone
One true religion
One race one hope
One real decision
Wowowowo oh yeah oh yeah oh yeah

I had a dream
When I was young
A dream of sweet illusion
A glimpse of hope and unity
And visions of one sweet union
But a cold wind blows
And a dark rain falls
And in my heart it shows
Look what theyve done to my dreams

So give me your hands
Give me your hearts
Im ready
Theres only one direction
One world one nation
Yeah one vision

No hate no fight
Just excitation
All through the night
Its a celebration wowowowo yeah

One one one one...
One vision...

One flesh one bone
One true religion
One voice one hope
One real decision

Gimme one light
Gimme one hope
Just gimme
One man one man
One bar one night
One day hey hey
Just gimme gimme gimme gimme
Obama!

20. Sea of Joy - Blind Faith
Edited on Wed Nov-05-08 11:48 AM by livetohike
When I got home from working the polls last night, I turned on the TV to see the crowd at Grant Park and this is the first song I thought of :-).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yJmQvXTlFgg

Following the shadows of the skies,
Or are they only figments of my eyes?
And I'm feeling close to when the race is run.
Waiting in our boats to set sail.
Sea of joy.

Once the door swings open into space,
And I'm already waiting in disguise.
Is it just a thorn between my eyes?
Waiting in our boats to set sail.
Sea of joy.

Having trouble coming through,
Through this concrete blocks my view
And it's all because of you.

Oh, is it just a thorn between my eyes?
Waiting in our boats to set sail.
Sea of joy.

Sea of joy.
Sea of joy.
Sailing free.
Sea of joy

22. "Walking on Sunshine"
"I'm Yours":

Open up your mind and see like me
Open up your plans and, damn, you're free
Look into your heart and you'll find love, love, love, love
Listen to the music of the moment
People, dance and sing
We're just one big family
And it's our godforsaken right to be loved, loved, loved, loved, loved

So I won't hesitate no more, no more
It cannot wait
I'm sure
There's no need to complicate
Our time is short
This is our fate
I'm yours

And, finally, the song I wanted to sing in '04 when I last dared to hope--"Morning Glow" from the Broadway show Pippin:

Morning glow, morning glow
Starts to glimmer when you know
Winds of change are set to blow
And sweep this whole land through
Morning glow is long past due

Morning glow, fill the earth
Come and shine for all you're worth
We'll be present at the birth
Of all things looking new
Morning glow is long past due

Oh morning glow, I'd like to help you grow
We should have started long ago
So...

Morning glow, all day long
While we sing tomorrow's song
Never knew we could be so strong
But now it's very clear
Morning glow is almost here

Morning glow, by your light
We can make a new day bright
And the phantoms of the night
Will fade into the past
Morning glow is here at last.

26. My Time--Kindred the Family Soul
Verse 1
After all of the hard work
And all of the things I sacrificed
Now I finally know my worth
The whole of me it has no price (Priceless)
I thought I’d never make it this far
I underestimated myself
And though my life has truly been hard
Now I know the greatness of my wealth

Hook 1
I’m rich in love
I’m rich in peace
I’m rich in hope
I’m rich indeed

Hook 2
I’m ready
This is My Time
All that I’d hoped for is mine
It’s mine, it’s mine
(repeat)

Verse 2
See I can have anything
See I can do anything if I believe
I’ve learned what you want you have to start first
You can’t just sit back and wait on anyone
You’ve got to put your best foot forward
Have faith and take action
‘Cause you never know where that road may lead
You can’t be afraid to take that chance
You’ve got to sow and plant your seed
Adapting to any circumstance

Hooks 1 & 2

Bridge
You’ll know when that moment comes
And childish things are put aside
When you’ve learned to embrace your true self
And you really begin to live your life

Hook 2

Repeat to fade
