"Wasilla Hillbilly" Palin's spending spree was more extensive than initially reported....
This is from a Huff Post article referencing the Newsweek special election projexct. -WB

Highlights from the report:

o Palin's shopping spree at high-end department stores was more extensive than previously reported. While publicly supporting Palin, McCain's top advisers privately fumed at what they regarded as her outrageous profligacy. One senior aide said that Nicolle Wallace had told Palin to buy three suits for the convention and hire a stylist but instead she began buying for herself and her family--

clothes and accessories from top stores such as Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus. According to two knowledgeable sources, a vast majority of the clothes were bought by a wealthy donor, who was shocked when he got the bill. Palin also used low-level staffers to buy some of the clothes on their credit cards. The McCain campaign found out last week when the aides sought reimbursement. One aide estimated that she spent "tens of thousands" more than the reported $150,000, and that $20,000 to $40,000 went to buy clothes for her husband. Some articles of clothing have apparently been lost. An angry aide characterized the shopping spree as "Wasilla Hillbillies looting Neiman Marcus from coast to coast," and said the truth will eventually come out when the Republican party audits its books.

A Palin aide said: "Governor Palin was not directing staffers to put anything on their personal credit cards, and anything that staffers put on their credit cards has been reimbursed, like an expense. Nasty and false accusations following a defeat say more about the person who made them than they do about Governor Palin."

o McCain himself rarely spoke to Palin during the campaign and aides kept him in the dark about the details of her spending on clothes because they were sure he would be offended. Palin asked to speak along with McCain at his Arizona concession speech but campaign strategist Steve Schmidt vetoed the request.

31. oh it's open season on her
She'll never get that far. Not with Mitt and the guys looking to 2012 ready to crush her. These people working with McCain some of them were with Mitt first, and they'll use what they know to crush Palin like a grape.

What happened to charity? This woman has many sides to her that people are not aware of. She sounds truly awful.

15. Yeah lost right in the back of Sarah Palin's closet
Actually, probably not even in the back, I doubt she'd try to hide anything, like she cares.

I like the part about the wealthy Republican donor being surprised at the bill, lol. Dude got hosed! He probably wishes he got kissed before he was screwed!

I still find this to be offensive on so many levels.

There's going to be a massive fallout between McCain/Palin camps and it's going to be nasty when the thing finally erupts. I can't wait to see it.

9. Most revealing was GOP smearing rural people with Hillbilly comment
Edited on Wed Nov-05-08 11:22 AM by Overseas
They recruited Caribou Barbie to appeal to rural fundamentalist voters and gave her a generous clothing budget because they wanted to dress her up in little lady suits and stilettos for the right wing boys and church goers to see her in "Sunday Best".

Then they trash their precious princess when they're in private. "Wasilla Hillbilly"

Those kinds of comments are very characteristic of the GOP snobby elitist Country Club First crowd.

Guess they really don't believe in the "real America" or care too much for "Joe Sixpack." lol

I'm a farm hick from a reservation in Montana. I have no choice but to be a Dem, the GOP would effing disdain me and try to make me carry their bags for them or something, lol.

17. We don't know what she spent in October, either--and I doubt we ever will. It will be buried
in the McCain and RNC reports as something else. Since when do Vice Presidential candidates give speeches when the ticket loses? She is one delusional diva.

19. she's a glory hound
She thinks it's about her. She acted from the beginning like she deserved to be where she was and even acted disdainful towards McCain. Like when he'd try to hug her she'd look repulsed. She's been awful from the beginning. After awhile, she acted like it was her campaign or something. Palin and her people think she should have been turned loose to do whatever she wanted, even after it was obvious she was so stupid that she was burying the campaign. She went rogue, it was a mess. McCain made a major blunder choosing her, but even then, he was ill-served by her actions. She wanted to speak so she could steal some thunder and start launching a bid for 2012.

26. Interesting to see that she brought up Ayers on the trail before it was ok'd by McCain....
The number of threats against Obama began to skyrocket after that happened too, I guess. She's disgusting and vicious. There is going to be an awful lot that comes out about this woman, and it is not going to be pretty at all.

35. The Freeps love her and will probably defend her from anything the McCain camp leaks
Yeah, she wasn't vetted and that's McCain's fault.

That said, once her true colors started coming out on field I think McCain was basically stuck with her. She had been nominated at the convention and I'm not sure they could have dumped her without coming out and saying in public "yeah, we made a big old mistake and damn if we're not royally boned at this point."

Not only would that have pissed off the base it would have effectively broadsided the campaign to where they would have had to say, "We quit, Obama wins".

36. some are her inner circle
The people closest to her. While the others are McCain people assigned to her so they could coordinate what she does within the umbrella of the campaign. So it's a mixture of her loyalists, McCain loyalists and even a few basic GOP operatives who are loyal to the party and not some diva who is sinking a presidential campaign.

39. she deserves it
McCain has some redeemable qualities. He may yet spend some productive time working with the future president and the party in power. Palin is simply reprehensible. The sooner she is politically crushed the better, we don't need people like that in politics.
