Californians: Do not PANIC about Amendment 8 - remember Colorado's Amendment 2?
We had to suffer SO much shit from the country - boycotts here in Colorado, dumping of Celestial Tea...

A lawsuit was instituted and went all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court - it was finally shot down and buried, but the scars of the Amendment 2 remains, and we still have the stupid author of the amendment here in Colorado - Douglas Bruce. We continue to deBrucify his stupid ideas - including the TABOR which still needs to be removed but it's being dismantled slowly.

Have patience!

3. So what happens next? As a lawyer can you tell us...
if this is final, or is this just a plebiscite, and the state has to act somehow in response?

7. Not in the area that I practiced....
...but there will be some challenge ~~ IMO, in particular this will come from those who were married while it was legal and they are now being denied rights as a married couple.

IMO, this will work its way to the SCOTUS.

4. I'm with you, Hepburn.
This PFLAGer will fight on (www.pflag.org)!

Whenever I feel down about this, I think of the HUGE amount of youth that came to our No-On-8 rallies. They will be voting soon! We will prevail - soon!

6. I was wondering if they were going to fight ijt
It seems to me like it's adding religion to our constitution, violating seperation of church and state. I think it can be fought in the ocurts.

Also, is the IRS going to look into the mormon church spending all their money on a political campaign?

11. Ya, I was wondering the same thing
It would seem to me that the churches who POURED their money into CA for this initiative (and believe me I can't stop wondering at the irony of the scandal-ridden Mormon and Catholic Church being so flush with ca$h and self-righteousness) are in for a nasty surprise when it goes to the next level -- and they are made to answer for this blatant propaganda at the risk of their tax-free status. I wonder if they would have done everything that they did if they thought they were going to have to start paying into the system like the little corporations that they've become?
