I made a complete ass of myself at an Obama party last night in front of actor Jeffrey Wright!
I spent part of election night with my sister at a popular multi-culti bar in Brooklyn called Moe's. Even though it's a small, it seems to have this political reputation -- I guess because the owner, a young African American woman, Ruby, is well known in the community as rabidly Democratic and anti-Bush.

There was a funny moment when I made a complete jackass of myself in front of the actor, Jeffrey Wright ("Basquiat", "Angels in America", "Syrianna" and more recently "W"). I saw this guy come in, and he's yelling over our shoulder trying to get Ruby's attention (it was extremely packed and busy), and when he finally gets her attention, she recognized him as though she knew him well and poured him a free drink, and because of his booming "actorly" voice, I said to my sister, doesn't that guy look like the actor Jeffrey Wright? She said of course not, he looks nothing like Jeffrey Wright and he's way too short. Since everyone was talking to everyone else about the election and anything else, and since I was now assured this wasn't Jeffrey Wright, and I wouldn't be violating the New York unwritten rule of ignoring celebrities, I said to this guy, I'm sure you hear this all the time, but you really look a lot like the actor, Jeffrey Wright. He said, yeah, and I've heard that before and I hear Jeffrey Wright is a great guy. A little while later the guy leaves. Later that evening just before I left, I asked the bartender if Jeffrey Wright drinks here, and he said yeah, didn't you see him in here earlier?

5. Jeffrey Wright is an amazing actor.
I loved him in "Basquiat" - he was spectacular.

And what a fun story! :-)

12. He was the young lawyer doing "due diligence"
on the merger of the oil companies. He plays the third most important character after Clooney's and Damon's characters.

10. "Angels in America" is a masterpiece , IMHO, and "Basquiat"
was damn good , too, though I only saw it once when it first came out. He is an amazing actor.

14. I saw Angels on Broadway and believe it or not
it was even better in the theater than on tv. It was absolutely spellbinding and a life changing experience.

It was so long, you had to go two nights (there was a part 1 and part 2 shown on different nights).

In addition to Wright, the Broadway version I saw had Cynthia Nixon (Sex in the City) and F. Murray Abraham (Amadaeus)!

Wright was the only actor who was in both the play and tele-series.
