Guys, just a thought, if you want to get a newspaper as a keepsake for today,
you better do it FAST!

I write this at 9:32am pacific time. Copies of today's EVERYTHING, NYTimes, LATimes, USA Today, Wall Street Journal, even Daily Variety, going fast. There was only a small stack of each remaining this morning at my usually-well-stocked neighborhood newsstand.

I'm making a Christmas package of these, sort of like a time capsule, for both of my kids.

3. About the only thing I don't have that I wish I had had the presence of mind to get
was the New Yorker issue with THAT cover - the fist bump satire cover. Missed that one. But I have lots of stuff from the he-clinched-the-nomination onward. And I have a little side collection of Hillary stuff to throw in - first woman presidential hopeful. I did not do so for the sarah palin thing, because she did not make history to the extent they did. Yeah, maybe first GOP female VP nominee, but the VERY FIRST such woman contender was one of OURS, a couple of decades ago already: Geraldine Ferraro. So I didn't view the palin candidacy as such a landmark, really. Not worth collecting keepsakes for that one, at least to me.

4. Well, now it's almost 2pm pacific time, and I'm sure everything is long gone.
I'm glad I went out at 7am to take care of this errand. I was afraid I'd wind up driving all over town if I'd waited. Besides, it was kinda hard to sleep at that hour - I was still plenty keyed up. And there was a substantial mess left over from having friends over to watch the returns, so I was still up cleaning, if slowly. I've been taking my time and doing a little here and there, not rushing it.

WHOTTA NIGHT!!!! It STILL feels a little surreal. Maybe it's because I'm so unaccustomed to being on the winning team (winning without question or challenge or theft or murk, that is - winning without an asterisk, I guess).

8. Yeah, everything around my area got snapped up pretty quickly.
I couldn't believe how small the stacks of papers were by the time I got there, and it was seven in the morning! And there were several people there already, in line to buy a few copies themselves.

6. Went out about an hour ago on a paper hunt.
Five locations and every machine I could remember. Nothing. No Cincinnati Enquirer, no Dayton Daily News, no New York Times, no USA Today.

:-(

Guess I gotta wait for Time and Newsweek. I'm so mad at myself for not getting on that earlier.

Of course, there is this:

I think you can send for one of 'em, though - but I'm not sure. I did that with the LA Times once, about 10 years ago. There's a fee, of course. Just for curiosity's sake, I looked around a little on the way home from a school event last night. Nothing anywhere. Wow...

A good measurement of how big and memorable an event is - how everyone wants a keepsake!

Just don't forget to get the Inauguration coverage papers early the next day. I'll bet everything the morning after that will be gone BY 7am.

BTW - did you see this?

A link from jefferson dem:

It says USA Today and some others are offering souvenir copies for sale through their websites.
