Calm the hell down, Rahm works for Barack, not the other way around . . .
. . .and while I'm not a fan of the DLC, I do like Rahm and he will serve Barack Obama, as well as the country fine. When I ran Clark's campaign in Illinois I worked under Rahm's political office and I was very impressed. Remember Obama is the president of the USA not DU or the progressives and believe it or not his staff will look more like the USA not DU, Daily Kos or Huffington Post.

Can we celebrate for 24 hours before folks start throwing tempter tantrums?

3. I've kind of learned to trust President-Elect Obama's decisions.
I'm sure he'll make some mistakes, but for the most part, the man seems to have an incredible ability to make really productive choices.

6. Amen, brother!! At least Rahm will no longer meddle in
the political campaigns of progressives, as he did when he was with the DCCC. He is being "kicked upstairs".

7. As chief of staff he will be involved in a lot so don't dance about that. . .
. . .but folks don't understand Rahm is pragmatic. A lot of Rahm's "meddling" is necessary.

13. Alot of Rahm's meddling has hurt populist Democratic candidates too.
That pisses me off.

Edited on Wed Nov-05-08 03:41 PM by DinahMoeHum
IF he does indeed become chief of staff. Right now, I hear that's not written in stone.

Let's wait and see what happens, people.

23. Problem is that having Emmanuel as COS would be like having the Chamber of Commerce
as Obama's gatekeeper.

. . .and if you think this is the wrong thing you are in for a bad 4 years but the country is in for a good 4 years.

16. You never really explained why it was the right thing.
Besides Obama's great campaign, which doesn't necessarily follow.

And I don't think the ire for Rahm is unearned. 2006 isn't that long ago.

19. 2006? The year he ran the DCCC and we retook the House? Oh Rahm is just awful. . .LOL
He has White House experience, working in the Clinton White House (a very good president). He has the ability to get things done on the Hill. He is tough. He is someone who has Obama's confidence.

He is a very good choice.

26. I think you mean the year Howard Dean's strategy came to fruition.
The DCCC fairy tale never gets old. It was the reinvention of the party from the ground up, not some superman effort by Rahm Emmanuel.

Anyway, they're saying nobody asked him anything now, so this is a moot point.

27. OK, I will...
Think what you will of Emanuel, but there is no arguing the guy is a no-nonsense SOB who knows how Congress works. He had the discipline to be top sergeant for Doc Dean in the 2006 midterm victory that presaged the tsunami of last night.
To pursue a WWII analogy, Emanuel was Patton to Dean's Omar Bradley; a careful planner & thoughtful strategist over a "balls to the wall",take-no-prisoners executive officer.
I don't know what you've got against the guy, but he will CERTAINLY help Obama run a tight ship, and he can be an EXCELLENT "bad cop" for Obama with Congress, whilst the Pres does the conciliation and outreach at which he excels.

I respect Obama's judgement, but I think he could have done much better. That is all.

. . .and as the head of the DCCC he is primarily responsible for that victory.
